Vic Mensa and The Game

Today I have some really sick music for you by Vic Mensa and Kanye West. That is right, today we are delving into the world of rap and hip hop, with a little electronic work in the background. Quite a while it has been, but let's get to it!

Vic Mensa is quite the interesting artist, because his focus on pursuing music is so raw. For him it is more about the experience of getting out there and doing something creative and fun, like making music. This song has a lot of really good things going on in it, and the first thing that I noticed was that the song is pretty chilled out, with these deep and firm and strong percussion work. That creates this awesome sound for the song, something that you can listen to everywhere and anytime.

Now I actually have to go the drop in this song because it is a drop into absolute ferocity. This is the kind of song that makes you feel like you own any room you may walk into.  From what I hear in this song Vic Mensa has some major talent. But the track is charged with so much energy and this phenomenal viciousness. It comes off as a personal anthem, a statement of pure confidence. And I love that so much because it has this no fear kind of vibe. I will say, this song has all the components necessary for a hype song. It feels like it is meant to be more of a banger than anything else, but that's okay! Sometimes you need a hype song like this to really get things shaking.

Now, Vic Mensa is clearly an artist who has a signature style and sound. However, this song follows in the footsteps of the signature Kanye production style. Now the reason I say this is reminiscent of Kanye's production style, is because the song utilizes unconventional sounds to create a wicked soundscapeThe instrumentation isn't the standard hip hop beat with the snare drum rattling out a sick rhythm. In this case, the most prominent instrument is the brass section followed up with a growling electric guitar.  I love the fact that this song dabbles with electronic work as well. And while there isn't a clear drop to the song, there are moments when the smaller components like the electric guitar, come in and highlight certain parts of the chorus. One of those defining factors is the deep and vibrating bell which rings in the start of the chorus. There is something oddly menacing about that sound, and especially in the context of this song. I guess I would even go so far as to say that this track could be considered a bit of trap rap. An interesting genre for sure and one that is growing, there seems to be a striking slickness in the performance of this song.

Unfortunately I am not as familiar with Vic Mensa's work, something this song is making me change. Being an early taste, I am thoroughly impressed with what I have heard so far from Vic Mensa, and am ready to hear what else he has in store for us.

Today's instrumental song is by The Game, and this is my absolute favorite song by them because they obviously, have a lot of swag and style.  This song is an interesting one to chat about because it seems like many people know it, but nobody has heard it. But for those of you who haven't heard it, this song is an absolute monster. Whenever I need to get riled up and hyped up for something, this is my go to track. From the production to the spitfire rhymes, this is a song that goes all in. It has the swagger needed, combined with a fierce grit and savage delivery. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
