Flight Facilities and Disclosure

It has been quite some time since I posted anything electronic or EDM related, so I thought that would be a fun way to start up today's post. So today, I have some music for you by one of my favorite electronic artists, Flight Facilities. As we all know, EDM tends to be a wide but really fun genre of music. There are so many subgenres and sounds that are under the umbrella of EDM, and today we are going down the path of house and disco.

I think the first thing I have to address when talking about this song, is Flight Facilities as a music duo. This is one of the most risk-averse artists to listen to because you will always find something to like. You may not like every song, but there will be a few that you can definitely jam to. This is all because of the musical style with which the duo has defined for themselves. I think many producers easily give this duo a nod of approval because of how dynamic the music is. Everything is so well polished, even when Flight Facilities aim in a different musical direction or try to create a unique sound. And their music can always be relied on for some funky beats and drops and groovy jams, while also giving us some really beautiful and euphoric tracks. Each song sounds so different from the next, each one a masterpiece of music. However, I think one of the things that must be noted is that Flight Facilities has abandoned the festival style of electronic music. I feel like a lot of DJs are creating great music, but so often it gets lost in this idea of creating festival bangers. While this is nice, Flight Facilities offers us such a breath of fresh air, bringing 70's and 80's style jams to the present. The lush tracks that we get are so great for a casual jamming session, a dance groove, or even just a catchy song to have to play in a store or lobby. Flight Facilities has quickly and quietly taken over a style of music which is not often produced. Their quirky and interesting style makes them such a wonderful playlist addition for those of us who have tired out of bass drops.

Now, this track specifically is a really funky tune with every essence of being a dance song. Whether you want to or not, this song will get you up and moving in such a charismatic and fun way. This is a song which is meant to seem like a single, a song that is a stand alone. And while it is, of course, featured on an album, I do get the feeling that this could have been a single. There isn't a story to tell here, rather a vibe that we need to feel. This is a bouncy and vivacious song without having the high energy and rather large and loud sound of many other electronic songs. Flight Facilities has opted for a softer route with this song, and we can feel that softness in the song. The house undercurrent though gives the song that life and energy it needs. Whether we realize it or not, there is a very fine and delicate balance here between giving and taking energy from something. In this song, there is a softness which rounds out and tames the rest of the instrumentations and sounds.

Part of that rounder sounds comes from the soft-focused synths of the song. There isn't a harshness or overall loudness to the way the synths are integrated into the song. The melody we get from the synth work is so splendid and very soothing for the ears. It also becomes an easy melody to layer other sounds onto. Many synth lines layer together to give this song that 80's vibe which is fun and retro. The pulsating beats, slight shimmer, and old-school runway percussion pattern is something that really lets us go back to that groovy day in age. The energy is good and the vibe is even better, and Flight Facilities has put up a soundscape which is simple but intricate. If this is your first time with Flight Facilities, you are in for a treat because this song will have you bopping your head and having an all-around great day.

Today's instrumental song had to be by Disclosure. This is one of the only other duos out there and overall musicians who are interested in this style of music. It is a bit of pop with some EDM and electronic things, and rap. But it is all straight up fun. Disclosure tends to be one of those groovier DJs, the kind that doesn't rely on having sick drops but focuses on creating an atmosphere and overall vibe. Of course, disclosure does a phenomenal time of it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
