Madeon and Schiller
Today I have some new music for you by an EDM artist who likes to create music under the radar while still being at the forefront of some of the biggest EDM events around the world. Madeon is simply put, a master of electronic music. He is only 20 years old, yet has released albums, EP's and a plethora of singles and remixes. I have to say, he has quite the dossier and the extent to which he experiments with music is quite extensive.
The thing about Madeon is that he has such a distinctive style that is completely his own. If I heard a song, I could tell you whether or not it is a Madeon song or not simply by his signature sound. This is where things can be a bit difficult though - his sound is something that is hard to put into words. There is this groove that surfs throughout the sound waves and a softer sound to the overall electronic work. Many electronic artists today have sharper, blunter electronic sounds and programming. But Madeon is a different story. Each note is somehow fuzzed out, slightly rounded so that it is not a harsh sound we hear, rather, something that feels as if it could wash over us. Madeon has the ability to make EDM something that you can dance to while also allowing it to be something that consumes and fills your entire being in this raw contentment and transcendent feeling.
This song, in particular, is one that is very personal to Madeon. This is the song he wrote, composed, and produced in a 24-hour time span. That is right, he locked himself for 24 hours to get this song done. And it is spectacular! This is also the first song that Madeon sings in. The vocals are all his and I like the fact that Madeon has begun to shed the layers that surround him and has opened himself up to these new sounds and experiences. With this song, we get to see a deeper side of Madeon, one that shows his array of talent and versatility. This song starts out a little bit more delicate but gives way to this swooping and shining and thundering chorus. This is a song that builds up to a feeling of total ecstasy, a feeling of complete release and freedom. There is this explosion of sound and emotion in the chorus of this song despite the fact that this song is so EDM heavy. That firework of color and sound is what sets Madeon apart from other artists. He uses that "drop" to make this song have so much more emotion and feeling and humanity in it. And that feeling of blending the electronic and digital with the tangibility of humanity is something so particular to Madeon. A sound quality that is very rare to find, yet so fulfilling once heard.
Today's instrumental song is by the DJ known as Schiller. Schiller is an interesting DJ because he tends to stick to more traditional styles of trance. Trance has definitely evolved over the past 10 years, and after all that time, it is nice to know and hear artists like Schiller sticking to the older trance. The trance that is not all about the drop or the bass, but rather, how the song makes you feel. The state of mind it puts you in. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
