LMNT and The Backstreet Boys

Today I am going back to the days of the boy bands, a song that is off one of my personal playlists. LMNT was around for a short while, coming out with a lead single which seemed to take over the young pop world by storm. I never realized how much I loved this song until I heard it after almost 10 years, and if something like that doesn't make you feel old then I don't know what will.

There was so much about this song which made young me (and current me) really love this song. I have to admit, this song has all the characteristics of your typical 2000s boy band. This is the kind of song you would hear in all those teen movies, and incidentally enough, this particular song was a popular choice. But we have a lot going on in this song which helps give it that throwback vibe.

For starters, the fact that LMNT is a boy band. It is hard to miss that fact, and that in itself is enough to make this song a good one. The nostalgia for boy bands of old, with synchronized dance moves and designated personality types. We can't deny how much we used to love those kinds of bands. But part of what made them, and LMNT, popular was the fact that they could also sing pretty well. LMNT's members came together from male singers who auditioned for a television series. Though these individual singers didn't make it to the end of the show, they definitely ended up making it within the music scene for a few years. LMNT had just three members, one who covered baritone, another who was the bass vocalist, and then the lead vocalist. Normally boy bands have more than three members, but I think LMNT made it work really well with just three. They covered the entire scale and had multiple octaves between all three singers, which is absolutely necessary. Because there are fewer members though, each singer carries a lot more weight. In the song, you can hear how each singer contributes heavily to make the sound very well rounded. Of course, you have the lead vocalist who opens up the song, but as we get to other verses we get to hear the baritone and bass voice shine through. This also means that LMNT has some mean harmonization going on. I mean the way all three voices blend together so beautifully is so nice and easy on the ears. And my favorite part? During the final bridge and climax moment, the lead vocals soar so high and gorgeously, flanked by some incredible harmonization. There is an authenticity to the band's singing, and I really like that.

So the song has a great mix of band instruments and teen pop elements, which is what makes the song work the way it does. An interesting mix of electric and acoustic guitars is what hits you first. The song opens up with an electric guitar and then switches to an acoustic. I think this is to give the song a bit of a suburban hip-hop feel, mixed with a something a bit more high energy and even a bit rock oriented. And of course, this song would be incomplete with some of that signature electronic sound from the early 00s. It's the pop life from our younger days, a sound which I won't ever be able to forget. While I can't say there are many complex things happening in this song, you can't deny that it is a reminiscent jam. And it will always remind me of my younger days!

Today's instrumental band had to be by another boy band of that era. The Backstreet Boys happen to be one of the most famous boy bands in history and this is one of their most famous songs. We get a lot of the same sound characteristics between the two songs. The odd style of hip-hop, heavy electronic work which is almost like space jams, and the need for guitars in everything. And it is so so good. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
