GAWVI and Jonas Blue
Today I have some fun and bubbly music for you by an artist and producer out of Miami. GAWVI musical career has been really interesting to look at because of his work as a producer. One of the most notable hip-hop and rap producers within the Christian music world, GAWVI actually boasts a Grammy award for his production. Most of his work has been made popular by Lecrae, another really talented and incredible artist. But with today's song, we get something that is GAWVI and him only. This song is all him - the song lyrics, composition, and production.
For starters, this is a really catchy track. There is an intoxication dance beat to the song which makes it so much fun and exciting to listen to. The song starts out with this really nice tropical percussion work. It's deep and resonates so nicely, making it a great base from which the rest of the song can be built upon. This song has some intricately layered synth work, but it all fits like clockwork. GAWVI did a good job of creating multiple harmonies and melodies which slide together very well. The main percussion beat is simple enough, but I love all the other tropical and synth elements that get layered on. The multiple synth melodies create a warm and fun atmosphere while giving the song that inclusive sound which EDM has so wonderfully popularized.
I love that we can hear so many little things within the song which come together to make the full track sound the way it does. The light clapping in the background was soft enough to not be at the forefront of the soundscape but was just loud enough to give the song a steady beat. The vocals are done by Jonathan Thulin, a Swedish Christian singer. His voice reminds me of some of the big R&B and hip-hop singers we have on the radio today. His voice is sweet and smooth, full of energy and soul. His voice adds so much bounce and bubbliness to the song, and you cannot help but really love that. He doesn't sing this song like it is a stadium anthem. Jonathan Thulin is singing to us, the audience. He is singing to us in a more intimate and personal setting, wanting this to be a song which hits the spirit. And goodness does he do a good job! This track has a danceable beat and deliciously good lyrics, both of which are plus points for this track. The song is upbeat and uplifting, two things which we look for in music.
It is always so interesting to hear when dance and EDM based music hits the Christian music scene. Mostly because it so rarely happens! This kind of sound isn't very popular within this specific genre, but GAWVI pulls it off very well. Maintaining the high energy and excitement of dance music, GAWVI is still able to weave more worshipful and Christian motifs throughout his music. It doesn't ever feel like you are specifically listening to Chrisitan music either. There isn't a point in the song that really gives that motif away, making us think "yep, this is a song about God." And while some may disagree, I really like that and appreciate it. The music feels more inclusive and more universal while also being fun and entertaining. GAWVI's latest album is such a great ride, and I hope you all take some time to listen to the rest of it!
Today's instrumental song is one that has made it onto so many of playlists. Jonas Blue is a rather unknown musician and artists, but one of my favorite tropical artists out there. He has had some hits which have made their way into the popular light, but even the songs that haven't are just incredible. Similar to GAWVI, Jonas Blue does not have an overbearing electronic beat and drop. It is more about creating a really fun, relaxed, and easy going kind of atmosphere. Between these two artists, your feet won't be standing still. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
