Pim Stones and Henry Krinkle

Today I have some music for you by the singer, songwriter, and producer known Pim Stones. My first exposure to Pim Stones was through a show called Teen Wolf. And while the show is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, I cannot deny that the music is really good. Looks like some things about MTV remain!

One of the reasons why I really like this song is because it kind of has a distinctly British underground sound. There is an underlying musical vibe that comes from the British underground scene, and this one carries the vibe it had from a few years ago. The song is really smooth and chilled out, but still, has some dynamism and quirks to keep it interesting. When I listen to this song, I think of colors, with no specific images in mind, rather, a great collection of some softer and more muted colors, even pastels. Pim Stones is a very great artist because when he makes music, it has no method in mind, and I feel like that mental coloration reflects that. There is no formula to his music, no real vision of what the song is supposed to mean. Normally, that would be a little off-putting because I like it when music has a purpose when a song has lyrics and sounds that have a meaning. But Pim Stones' music is full of significance and depth because his lyrics describe topics that are abstract, and he presents that variation through his music. There is such a beauty to the fact that his music is free-form, and I love how he incorporates cinematic orchestral sounds into his own music.

This song is a little bit faster paced, with a pulsing and prominent percussion. But the rest of the sounds come from the keyboard and synthesizers, which is perfect to fit the style of music that Pim Stones is all about. I love what he has done with his vocals as well. He sings, yes. But there are echoes to the way he sings, as if he has layered the same vocal track a few times, but slightly off from each other. The use of string instruments is also something that is so wonderfully different and, honestly, a bit moving. There is such a yearning in this song, a desperation to find something or to run towards something. Pim Stones is an artist that I definitely am going to start to follow because his music is so ambient and ethereal. There is almost a slight haunting sound to this song, something that draws you in but doesn't have to keep you there. You willingly stay because it is something that speaks to you while also leaving you incredibly immersed, unwilling to pull away.

Today's instrumental song is by an artist that is pretty highly underrated. Now, this is also because he tends to hang out in the underground music scene. But, I am not going to discount his talent. This song is one that has been a love of mine for a really long time. Henry Krinkle is just such a great DJ! Actually, I would consider him to be more of a producer because his music is not really along the lines of EDM. But this song is just a great ambient and chill out song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
