Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez and Olly Murs
Today I have some pretty exciting music for you. A little bit of background, I was never a huge Justin Bieber fan. His older music was definitely meant to be charming little pop singles, something that wasn't necessarily up my alley. But over these years, we have seen and heard a lot of evolution in Justin Bieber's music. And now, I cannot stop listening to his music. His latest album to come out is absolutely genius. This is the best Justin Bieber has ever been and each and every song has something different to offer. So naturally, I have to post about one of those songs!
But what makes this more exciting, is that today's song is a mashup of one of Justin Bieber's singles and one of Selena Gomez's. I have to say, I am still not on the Gomez train, but this mashup is absolutely phenomenal. This version has a good balance between the two songs. The background melody is different variations of Justin Bieber's song, something that is pretty recognizable and something that is a very pleasing sound. It actually frames both sets of vocals and lyrics really well. That distinct background vocalization in Justin Bieber's song is a perfect compliment to both of the singers. The music is such a great blend of the two songs, even though it does lean more towards Justin Bieber's song. But that is made up for during the verses and vocals.
Most of the singing is done by Selena Gomez. At least most of the verses feature her. But the chorus weaves both songs so that they fit together perfectly. And it is beautifully sad how they almost seem to be having a conversation. When you hear how the lyrics are brought together, it is a tragic conversation but hauntingly moving at the same time. Towards the end of the song, we get more of Selena Gomez's musical track, but both of these songs fit so well together that it can be hard to tell between the two. I was totally blown away by this mash-up when I first heard it. It can be hard to find mashups that actually feature both songs well and doesn't just trade out a verse from one song with a verse from another. This mash-up actually takes different parts of both songs and ties them into each other. You can hear when the instrumentals from both songs start to mix together, and we can definitely hear when Justin Bieber's vocals and Selena Gomez's come together and layer on top of each other. This mashup is so well done, so well mixed. I started to listen to other mashups by similar artists and by the same DJ, and they are so great!
Today's instrumental song is by the British singer Olly Murs. He hasn't quite reached popularity in the States, but he is huge in Europe, especially the UK. I love Olly Murs for his jazzy and funky musical style, something that we tend to pass over when choosing music. But Olly Murs knows how to spruce it up enough to make his songs something that appeals to modern music lovers as well. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
