Galimatias and Gotye
Today I have some music for you by an artist who seems to do very well staying out of the huge spotlights and retain a great musical fan base. Galimatias is one of my favorite chill artists for a few reasons. One of the best things about his music is that it is meant for moments and feelings. It's meant for attitudes and specific moods, which is why each song is so wonderfully crafted and different. No song sounds the same even though they have similar production sounds. Galimatias has an overall theme which runs through all of his songs, a sound which acts like more of a trademark above all else. But each melody is different and the craftsmanship on each song is simply incredible.
This song by Galimatias is a seductively good song. In all of his soundscapes, Galimatias is known for creating a unique blend of electronic, R&B, and hip hop. Whether the song is a slower one or more bumping one, there is always an enchantingly good blend of the three genres so that one never outdoes the other, rather, they all compliment each other perfectly. One of the things that Galimatias does phenomenally well of on this track is the electronic blending. He never lets the electronic sounds diminish the intimacy and sultry nature of the song. We get a gorgeous fusion of piano chords, pulsing synths, and soulful R&B vocals, all of which creates a wonderfully relaxed and lovely atmosphere. In fact, Galimatias samples his own voice by providing the falsetto-performed lyrics which we hear in the song. Not only do we have a producer and DJ, but we also get a song writer and singer.
Now, Galimatias is no stranger to mixing and experimenting with music, and this one happens to be another hit. The genre defying song is one that I could listen to pretty much all day. The lack of rule following is what makes his music so spectacular. There is no specific genre sound which Galimatias rigidly sticks to. Instead, he has opted for creating something so unique and experimental, an experiment which has had some fantastic results. This song is soothing and smooth, but still, has a bit of the active seductiveness which accompanies R&B music. This song definitely has some great vibes, and I cannot wait to have Galimatias release more music.
Today's instrumental song comes from an artist who is no stranger to odd music and genres. Gotye is an artist who is known for having a hit single here and there, but what many listeners don't know, is that we are just scratching the surface with those singles. The depth of his music lies in the songs that are not streamed on the radio. And this is one of those songs.
Gotye produces his own music, instrumentation and all, and that is what I really want to bring the attention to. This song sounds unlike anything most people have ever heard, and it is such a great thing. Gotye will use anything and everything to create the sound that he wants. In this song, we get something that is definitely a bit odd and even a bit eerie, but incredibly creative. There is something that almost reminds me of a jungle when I hear this song. It isn't menacing nor is it particularly inviting. We get something mysterious and intriguing, something we cannot pull away from. In this song, Gotye makes beautiful use of orchestral strings which provide a nice and dynamic melody for what is the chorus. We are even graced with the lovely plinks of a harp, an instrument which is underused but overwhelmingly beautiful. But the song also features some very interesting woodwinds and overall winds instrumentation. There is a tribal element to the way those instruments sound, but I love that. Somehow it allows me to paint a vivid image of a jungle entrance while there is rain coming down around me. It gives imagery and life to an image of mystery, intrigue, and adventure. Gotye is not an artist who randomly puts sounds together. There is a meticulous genius to his music, especially instrumentation and this song is no exception. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
