Foster the People and Owl City

Today I have some new music for you by a band that has not been very active the past few years. We all remember Foster the People as the band that sang about those cool shoes, but the song wasn't actually about having cool kicks etc. Well, Foster the People is back again after quite some time and have dropped a wonderful new album.

This album is very interesting because it sounds exactly like Foster the People, but also sounds nothing like them. It is an odd concept to wrap your head around, but it also makes a bit of sense. For example, this particular song. It has to be one of my favorites by the band. Why? Because it has such a good vibe to it and it also reminds me of another good band- Tame Impala. It is very interesting because the musicality behind the song and the production style is very similar to what we have heard with Tame Impala, but it is also very characteristically like Foster the People. The groovy vibes and ethereal nature of the song is one that we are familiar with because of bands like Tame Impala, Spoon, and MGMT. Foster the People gives this song a nice ethereal and transcendent kind of sound. It feels like the kind of song that has you feeling like you're on cloud 9. It makes you feel like you are floating up there in the sky, not a worry in the world.

There is a nice freedom to the way the song is composed, and I really appreciate that. There is a nice funkiness to the song which is a great part of Foster the People's music. The solid bass line offers us the underlying depth we need to make this song feel complete. Even though the bass line doesn't make use of deeper sounds, the bass line acts like an anchor, giving the song more breadth and body. Airy guitars and summery synths make up the rest of the song, giving us an ambient kind of sound, one that makes the vibes all good and chilled out. There isn't a moment in the song when things feel like they are spiraling out of control musically, nor is there a moment when I feel like the song is lacking anything. We get such a great blend of acoustic and synth based instruments, and I love that Foster the People isn't afraid of trying something that is a bit more electronic based. There are some "Daft Punk" moments in the song which really help create that funky sound.

The lead vocalist for Foster the People also does a great job of showing off his vocals. We get a better taste of his range in this track, with some soaring notes and words. I will say, Mark Foster has some of the most unique vocals I have ever heard. It is very distinct and intriguing! There isn't a deep growl or grit to his voice, nor is there the suave and seductive R&B style. His voice doesn't really fit into a category, and that is what makes it so special. Foster the People has such a great thing going on right now, and I look froward to seeing them go on tour this year!

Today's instrumental song is by an artist who has really been out of the spotlight for a while. Owl City had a couple of hit singles, but mostly stayed in his own world of music. And what a special world that is! Owl City has created some of the most charming and uplifting pieces of music ever, and it is sad that we haven't heard anything new in a while. But nonetheless, the music is some of the greatest soul soothing medication. Owl City, please come back? I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
