CL and Diplo

Today I have some music for you out of South Korea. I know in the past I have talked about a couple of different Korean artists, but I realize that I have not spent as much time talking about this artist in particular. CL is one of the baddest women in music right now, and I honestly wish I had as much swag as she carries in her pinky finger alone. Though she is just now making her way stateside, CL has been a huge success in Asia between her solo work and girl band known as 2NE1.

CL is possibly the biggest female star in Korea, if not the biggest star they have. She has done some incredible work in her tenure with the Korean music industry, and definitely destroys all stereotypes associated with K-Pop. To be quite honest, she is basically the Nicki Minaj of Korean music. She has this incredible intensity to her entire persona. The way she looks, dresses, the style of music she produces, and the fact that she is a rapper. There is a tremendous amount of swagger and fierceness surrounding CL, which is only heightened by the fact that she is a pretty awesome rapper. This is part of CL's US debut, and just overall Western debut. And when you consider the kind of music that is starting to get really big and more popular lately, this seems like the best way to go.

And as this song is one of the ones giving CL more popularity in the West, it seemed appropriate to talk about it. Talk about a bass thumping, ferocious song! One of the things that I really do like and admire about CL is that she has a very unique way of rapping. There is something unmistakably recognizable about CL's rapping style. She ditches the stereotypical way of rapping and the more popular way of rapping for her own style. She pronounces the words in her own unique way, has a cadence that is completely original, and foregoes the style of rap that is considered stereotypical. A lot of artists from all over the world really like to take that version of rap and make that their thing, but CL opts for a sound that defines her. What is so cool about this song, is that CL seamlessly switches between English and Korean. In this song, CL tends to spit out the English rap verses, giving it grit and intensity. The Korean verses tend to come through as a catchy hook, giving us an incredibly infectious chorus and a sick bridge.

This is a song that incorporates the best of CL and original production styles found in Korean music. The booming beat gives the song a bit of a trap vibe, but not to the point where all it feels like is bass. You can feel the sass and sneer throughout the song, not just from CL's verses. That intense ferocity permeates through all facets of the song and it works very well for CL. She has made this track a song for the streets, not a generic single. That sense of direction and the purposeful creation of the song is impressive. All in all, this song is an absolute banger. We have a lot to hear from CL, so keep your ears ready to listen!

Today's instrumental song is from a pretty popular and recent Bollywood movie. I am going to be totally honest, I was caught completely off guard with this one. Why? Because Bollywood has officially welcomed Diplo into the ranks of artists and musicians who have created music for films. That is correct, Diplo has officially entered the Bollywood world. For a recent film, Diplo created one of the item songs, even though it isn't really an item song. It's one of those songs that comes at the end where everyone has a good time and is dancing the night away. But regardless, we now have an interesting track that not only combines the interesting moombahton style of Diplo, but brings in that Indian element as well. We all know Diplo has been experimenting with that kind of sound- just listen to some of his recent music. I just find it so mind boggling to actually see him with the cast of the film. Dancing together. As in a music video. I will say, it is an interesting road for Bollywood to take. And I really haven't decided how I feel about the song yet. Let me know what you think below! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
