The Ivory and Tears for Fears
Today I have a really fun and retro sound for you today! The moment I heard this song, I knew it would have to be featured right here. So, let's get our jam on!
This song is by the pop band known as The Ivy. I have to say, I would be very surprised if a vast majority of you have heard of the band. Not because I have anything against the band, but because they weren't around until April of last year! The Ivy is jut now starting out, and my did they pick the right kind of single to do it with.
For being a trio of young guys, it is incredibly refreshing and unique to hear them play songs that sound like they should becoming out of the 80s. This is a band that has taken on the pop rock idea of music from the classic 80s, and has turned it into a wonderfully modern song. I have to say, I was quite impressed when I saw how young these guys are. It isn't common for my generation and younger to be very invested in this older style of music, and even fewer of us can make music that sounds even remotely similar. But The Ivy not only willingly tackled a beloved genre and age of music, but they did so and won. Everything about this song screams classic rock. From the pop synths to the guitar solo with a heavy drum background, this song has everything we have loved about 80s pop rock.
One of the things that makes this song work so well, is that everything about it has a good blend. The classic 80s sound and modern vocals are a perfect mix. The instrumental stylistic elements we hear are so splendidly blended together with the modern synth work that it all seems like one. The Ivy makes really good use of the original production work that we had in the 80s. From chorus pedals for the guitars to gated reverb for the drums, The Ivy seems to have really covered it's bases. The instrumental work in this song is so nice though because it is full of this lively energy. The band seems to have made this both a lounging and chilling out song, while also making it a dance-y and pop hit. The Ivy is a band who clearly took a page out of the 80s music scene book. But what I enjoy the most, is that they do the genre so much justice. The Ivy has borrowed much from a time of classic music, but they have been able to make that sound turn into a pleasing and modern rendition.
Even the lead vocals are perfect for the rest of the song. The lead vocalist has a stunningly beautiful voice to equate the light hearted and characteristic 80s beat. It isn't the usual deep and husky voice, but there is a softness and vulnerability. The lead vocals also have this odd sense of strength and youthful vibrancy. There is just so much of this song that reminds me of all the records my dad has. The rhythm, movement, and development of the song. I mean, it's all there! All in all, this song is so much fun to listen to because of how uplifting and reminiscent of a time in music that we all love, There is such a warming element to the song that you simply cannot get rid of. The Ivory is a band I plan on keeping up with because I cannot wait to hear what else they have in store for us. It will definitely be exciting!
Today's instrumental song had to be one of those crazy pop rock songs that everyone who was around in the 80s was so used to. This song is by Tears for Fears, one of my favorite classic bands. This is their most popular song, and even kids in my generation would know this song. This is another one of those weirdly feel good songs that you can't ever shake. The classic guitar work is enough to get you on your feet and really start jamming out. This is one of those songs that will always be such a fun classic to listen to, and I don't think I will ever get tired of this one. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
