Ramin Djawadi and Game of Thrones

Today I have some music for you that is certain to get many people very excited and very hyped up. Last night marked the premiere of the seventh season of Game of Thrones. I am a huge fan of the show, and can tell you that there are many others who are just as crazy about it. What this show offers is a saga of a story about political scheming, danger, and mystery. And to accompany this saga is one of the best scores I have ever heard. 

Ramin Djawadi has done a lot of composing since he started on Game of Thrones. But there is something so incredibly unique and distinct about the way this show has been composed. The music reflects so much emotion and power. Every scene with an accompanying track has been enhanced ten fold because of Ramin Djawadi's compositions. His skill and ability are so incredible, as he knows how to capture moments and feelings with such perfection. If you took the music away from the show, the intensity and fantastical nature would be completely lost. And in honor of one of the greatest shows of our time, I wanted to post a couple of songs from the show. 

This first song is the recognizable and majestic theme song. What makes this theme and the rest of the score so brilliant, is that Ramin Djawadi was able to capture this medieval-Esque sound while also creating something that sang with epic power and movement. From beginning to end, we do get that underlying sense that this is a theme for castles and kings. I am not sure what to call it, but there is a graceful flow of strength and power through this theme. Ramin Djawadi composed his pieces to make statements. The music so beautifully timed and set in length, that when it does start to rise, we know something is about to happen. Each piece has something to say, and I think that is not only brilliant but impressively creative and impactful. 

This second song is very particular to a certain house. Each main character and house have their own theme, which can be heard multiple times throughout a season. Not each piece is the same, but the underlying melodies are always present in different renditions of these character themes. So I thought I would kick off this Game of Thrones musical journey with a theme associated with one of my favorite characters. Tyrion Lannister is a force to be reckoned with and is one of the craftiest and wittiest characters on the show. He is also a character who has seen and experienced so much.
