Bruno Mars & David Guetta and Daft Punk
Lately we have seen an increase in the number of remixes out there, floating around the music sharing and streaming platforms. One such platform is SoundCloud. Now there have been a lot of mentions regarding SoundCloud in the news. And I have to say, I was really nervous for the streaming site. SoundCloud has been my go to for so much indpendent and differnet and original music from musicians and artists of all genres and geographic regions. SoundCloud has been the place where I have discovered artists and singers long before the radio picked them up. It has been the place where I have been able to revel in Bollywood remixes and electronic music storms. And until today, that was all threatened. And then Chance the Rapper swooped in. He got his start on SoundCloud, and seems to have a very grateful sentiment towards SoundCloud. And from what I can tell, it seems like he has something up his sleeve in making sure SoundCloud sticks around for a long time.
So why did I turn the first part of this post into a little news rundown? That's because the song of the day is one that you would most likely hear on SoundCloud for the first time. The remix culture has become so huge because of the music streaming site, and this song fits that bill. WE all know that remixing popular song is quite common, so we aren't getting anything new in that regard. But David Guetta tackles Bruno Mars in this remix, and it is pretty spectacular. We know David Guetta for his energetic and hard hitting beats, and EDM favorite for many. And we also know Bruno Mars for his old school funk style with a modern twist. Now if we take those elements and blend them together, we get a song like this. A fun and lively masterpiece.
The original version of this song is not one that carries the same level of energy and excitement as this version. The Bruno Mars original is a weird mix of being a seductive and romantic song at the same time. The lyrics tend to take over the sensual parts of the song, while the instrumentation lends a more romantic sound to the song. What is interesting to note, is that Bruno Mars elects to go for that 80s synth based style of music. This song takes a lot from that old school kind of sound, where keyboards and synthesizers ruled the air waves. There is also a little bit of a Michael Jackson vibe with this song, that 80s pop style which we all still secretly love today. Now things get interesting when David Guetta comes in to remix the song.
If Davide Guetta and Michael Jackson were to ever do a song together, this is exactly what it would sound like. We get a bit more of a groovy song in this remix. I really appreciate that David Guetta kept in line with the old school funk and soul that Bruno Mars emulates. But throwing a modern twist in a tasteful way is also very impressive. There are definitely elements of this song that are reminiscent of what Daft Punk did with their last album. There is a good energy to the music while not following the conventional EDM composition style. David Guetta shifts the vibe a little bit as well to take on more of that 70's style we are used to hearing form Bruno Mars. David Guetta warms the song up with some cozy beats and retro vocals. He gently turns this song into one that has a bit more bumping energy.
Today's instrumental song had to be by an electronic duo who mastered the art of creating retro sounds. Daft Punk is possibly one of the most famous artists in the world, and for good reason. Their ability to blend classic sounds we love with modern instrumentation and melodic themes is uncannily good. Part of their charm and appeal is the fact that they employ a lot of live instruments when recording and producing. In this song, we get such a lovely dose of bass guitar work which actually makes up most of the melody. And then we get treated to their signatures retro vocals and synth background. Only an incredibly impressive duo like Daft Punk could turn modern music into classics with skill and elegance. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
