Anderson Paak and Hamilton
Hello, everybody! It is so good to be back here writing about music! I spent the last week traveling and keeping really busy, which is why we had a bit of a hiatus. But, I'm back today, and it is all about getting funky and jazzy.
Today's song comes from an artist that I've mentioned in the past. Anderson Paak is a very eclectic artist, one who likes to combine differing styles to create something original and fun. This song is one that has this nice funky jazz to it, something that is like an old school groove with a modern twist. Anderson Paak has a strong command of his music, knowing exactly what sound he wants and exactly what words he wants to use. There is an incredible strength to his producing and songwriting skills, one that is impressive. Anderson Paak knows himself as a musician, and that can sometimes be hard to find. Even within his rapping style and cadence, there is strong confidence which comes from an artist who really knows how he wants to sound. That conversational style of rap is so unique to what Anderson Paak does, bringing in an interesting perspective and twist to the way the lyrics are composed.
Even though he likes to pick out music from multiple eras, there is still that sense of complete control and mastery of the music. Now, this is actually more of a 60s groove jam about heartbreak. Interesting, I know. But for Anderson Paak, it just works! He pulls it off with such finesse and nonchalance that it seems strange to hear anything other than kind of style. What gives Anderson Paak such a mastery over his music, is his ability to provide input and character in every aspect. His versatility serves as a way to exercise his knowledge on every part of the song, allowing it to reach its full potential. He is such a skilled rapper, songwriter and lyricist, and instrumentalist. Not to mention he also plays the drums for his own sets. The level of brilliance that Anderson Paak reaches is pretty much the highest you can get.
The lyrical genius behind Anderson Paak's music is fueled from a place of emotional vulnerability. I am one who firmly believes that emotional compromise can lead to masterpieces that are worthy of being like their magnum opus. And while Anderson Paak talks about his environment, especially in regards to his relationship, he talks about this recurring topic in a very different way. I appreciate that so much as a listener, someone who wants to hear something more raw and real. Anderson Paak's ability is up there with artists like Kendrick Lamar, a person he is often compared to. Definitely an artist worth checking out.
Today's instrumental song is from the Broadway musical Hamilton. All the music for this musical was created by Lin Manuel Miranda. He composed the score and is the main lyricist, which is one of the greatest achievements in the world in my opinion. The lyrics are genius and so well presented that you can't help but pay attention. The musicality of this song is very similar to the first one, that jazzier form of R&B. I have fallen in love with this soundtrack, and hopefully, you'll start to feel that suave but intense nature of the song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
