OneRepublic & Amir and Cheat Codes & KKA

Today I have some new music for you by a band that has made a dramatic shift within the last month. OneRepublic has always been a band that is silently doing work and at all times. Whether they are in the studio, recording albums, or performing on tour, the band is always quite busy. Which is why the lead singer, Ryan Tedder, released a poignant letter to the public. He describes the time and energy and emotional toll that working as hard as the band does, took on him and the band. Because of this, OneRepublic has decided to shed the album idea from now on. The general idea is that the band releases songs whenever they feel like the song is ready. I t doesn't matter the genre or style, as long as the song is something the band can be proud of. Personally, I fully support this move by OneRepublic! I love it because it sends a message about music and the music industry as a whole. It cannot always be about the tours and consistent album churning. It is more about the music and the way we as listeners enjoy the song. It is about creating something an artist and their fans can be proud of.

So what makes this song such a strong choice for me to talk about? What about this song makes me proud as a listener? For starters, OneRepublic is a band that really takes the time to craft their music. Even if lyrics come easy, they take the time to refine the words and the pronunciation and eventually move onto the actual instrumental track. Each song also sounds different. Even if there is a common motif or theme to the musical style that OneRepublic releases, each song is distinct. This time around, we get one of OneRepublic's characteristically upbeat tracks. This song does have a very summery and tropical kind of sound to it, which I really do enjoy! This is one of the more pop-oriented songs we have gotten from OneRepublic, but it works so splendidly! There is a vivacious energy to the song and it never gets to be too much. The balance between being a dance-pop song and a chill kind of feel is achieved pretty much perfectly.

Here is where things get really cool though! There are a few versions of this song. Why? Because each version features a different language. Currently, there is an English, Spanish, and French version of the song. And today, I wanted to focus on the French version of the song. This one is actually my favorite. This version of the song features the French vocalist known as Amir, and my does he have a lovely voice. Amir actually competed in the Eurovision Song Contest and won, so that should be a little bit of a heads up as to how talented the man is. The French lyrics roll so smoothly off the tongue, and they fit so well with the rest of the song. Most of this song is sung in French as well, which makes it such a fun and incredible pop song. It brings an extra dimension to the song, one that is incredibly charming. Amir brings something gritty and raspy as an undertone for Ryan Tedder's voice. When the two duet, the chorus becomes this gorgeous blend of sounds, giving more depth and fullness to the chorus. Amir's deeper and raspier voice is a perfect support for the lighter falsetto provided by Ryan Tedder. Amir also holds onto his own verses for the song and turns them into this really nice rap-like sound. Amir takes this song and elevates it to a different sound and level. I haven't really heard much tropical house or sounds from French music, so it is a really cool twist to have a popular French artist join in on a predominately tropical pop song.

After just a few months since releasing their latest album, OneRepublic has hit us with another great song. It is such a sweet and lovely song, with a summery pop sound that is infectious. While we won't be seeing an album from these guys for a while, I hope we keep getting tracks as good as this one!

Today's instrumental song is by a couple of DJs that I have really gotten into within the past year or so. Cheat Codes and Kris Kriss Amsterdam are two DJ groups that do an awesome job of creating fun and upbeat electronic songs. They sometimes create tropical sounding songs, and other times just fun loving and beach kind of vibes. But this song is one of my favorites for both artists! Maybe because it is a great remix of a classic song (thanks, Salt-N-Pepa!) or maybe it is because this song is an all around good time. Either way, I know I have yet to get tired of this song and am just waiting for the chance to play it at a beach. Because let's be honest, tropical house always sounds better at the beach. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
