May the Fourth be With You

Today I am keeping things a little bit on the shorter side, so bear with me on that! But it dawned on me today, that I have never made a Star Wars related post on this particular day. That's right. On this iconic day in every calendar, especially for geeks and nerds like me, no Star Wars jokes were made. Why you may ask? I legitimately don't have a good answer. So in honor of today's date and for the sake of the awesomeness that is Star Wars, I have two pieces of music from the franchise.

Now, this first song is hands down one of the most recognizable compositions to come from a film. This is a song that has been used in all kinds of pop culture references and remains the butt of many jokes. But in a way, I love that! This song represents Star Wars in a way that most people forget. There is a light-hearted goofiness to the song which reminds us of how much personality is in the films. I won't deny, I do find most of the characters to be a bit somber and emotionally static. However, this song is a reminder that sarcastic and witty characters like Han Solo do prevail throughout the series. And of course, we all know Star Wars would be so incomplete without their cantina band.

Today's second song comes from the score of the latest Star Wars series films. Now I do have to make this distinction because of how the film universe is treating this fantastic galaxy. The latest in Star Wars related movies is a stand alone film, one that helps us bridge the gap between Episode III and Episode IV. However, this particular piece comes from the film that is actual withing the series. Episode VII of the Star Wars series has us moving forward into the future. And the score beautifully reflects how the evolution of characters and timelines changes the balance of the force. In this case, we get a more mournful version of the original Star Wars theme. This melancholy and hopeful composition reflects this thought that the series and many of its characters are coming upon their last moments. The more emotional and vulnerable motif within the piece is a lovely way to also get us to understand the situation the characters find themselves in. This particular score and piece are very reflective of the story we are watching unfold. And for that, I am so grateful!

Okay, so I did mention at the beginning of this post that it would be shorter. But in any case, I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment! Oh, and of course, May the Fourth be with you!
