The Maine and Peter Pan
Today I have some really old music for you, by a band that was extremely popular about 8 years ago. The Maine was a band that everyone would listen to, along with the other punk rock bands of that age. Bands like Forever the Sickest Kids and Blink-182 are similar to The Maine, that same kind of angsty punk and alternative pop. However, I was a huge fan of that when I was at that age in my life, and music is music for the sake of loving music. But I have to say, out of all the work The Maine has done, this song is possibly my favorite. It is not at all like the rest of their music. This song takes a much more acoustic and romantic sound. There is not that rough vocalization nor is there that singing style that these kinds of bands have. The long drawn out voice that is supposed to sound a bit nonchalant but also kind of young. With this song, I feel like we really get to hear the lead singer of the band. There aren't any fancy things he is trying to do with his voice, just simple singing. And because of that, we get to hear more of his real voice, the kind of voice he would serenade a girl with. It is so pure and natural and real, and a voice like that can be hard to find. But John O'Callaghan does a fantastic job of turning this song into something more romantic and acoustic. The band is taken out with this song, and we are left with a more stripped and sweet sound. The guitar is being strummed softly in the background, while the orchestra plays a bit, and the vocals gently layer themselves on top of the musical lines. This is a song that is all about balancing out the player and the people, being able to fit the player in well so that his voice joins the others seamlessly, and balancing out that personality with the others. This song is a masterpiece of cohesion and equal voices, enough so that the song is able to turn into a romantic ballad. This song really is quite sweet, and when you are able to hear the lovely vocals, it is a warming and cozy kind of feeling. This song is all about guitars and girls, making sure the right one won't ever have to worry about anything. But it is so beautifully and tastefully done, allowing the parts to sing together in this beautiful and dynamic movement, amidst a sea of work. I do have to say though, it is really nice to be able to go back and listen to the bands I listened to in middle school. Sadly enough, this was one of those songs and one of those bands! I did indeed listen to this kind of music, and these slower ballads about more romantic and adorable topics always got me in my feelings. I sometimes miss the good old days, when it was me and bands and my singing as if no one were watching. These songs stir up a lot of memories and I am very much happy about that. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Peter Pan. This score has a magical and enchanting sound to it. So much so, that if I were to hear this melody without context, I would know exactly where my mind should be drawn. This has a sweet and adorable and lovely sound to it, something that would brighten up a dark day in no time. I have not seen this movie, but hopefully it is good. Because the score is reminiscent of all the really good and funny and bad times you have had on a couch or on my bed. This song is perfect for remembering the things of the past. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
