SOHN and Game of Thrones

Today I have some new music for you by an artist by the name SOHN. This song is such a great example of how to blend alternative sounds with synth work. The subtleties for how the two styles intricately work together is just amazing. SOHN does an amazing job of creating a sound that is oddly 80's but with a modern twist. SOHN takes us down a nice and groovy path with his music. There is a smooth flow to the way the soundscape is presented to us. Even the percussion and rhythms are malleable, fitting into whatever beat is needed for the moment. This gives the song a strangely good dance vibe as well. Not your typical kind of dance song, but one that will definitely keep your head bopping. What is really cool about this song, is that the heavy and knocking drum sound is what carries this song ahead. Settling on top comes our synth lines which are more simplistic. This adds quite a bit to the song though because it serves as this really nice and powerful bass line. In this case, both the base and drums are keeping time for the song, allowing each line to stray a little here and there occasionally. SOHN produces this song to be more of this blues-rock kind of sound. We actually hear this more with the way the vocals layer on top of the drums. There isn't a guitar that takes charge, rather, SOHN's vocals take care of that. The syncopated manner of singing is what really gives this song that unique and interesting blues kind of sound. SOHN propels the song along with his vocal work and lyrics. Which brings me to another point. The lyrics of this song are ridiculously powerful and absolutely incredible. This is a song that speaks volumes about the world around us. In particular, this song alludes to social, political, and environmental unrest. One of the beautiful things about SOHN's latest album is that it serves as social commentary. Each song has a purpose, the point of view, and message.  And SOHN presents his thoughts to us with a voice that is not only mature but slightly haunting and definitely commanding. SOHN purposely simplifies the musicality of the song to let the word and lyrics really show through.  And with this simplicity, comes a creative spin on the song. SOHN actually uses kitchen utensils and empty bottles to create a lot of the rhythm you hear. There is a paradoxically upbeat nature to the song which makes the dynamic nature of the song something we can't get enough of. Setting rather foreboding lyrics to a more upbeat and energetic instrumentation is what makes this song so oddly endearing. There is a depth to this song which makes me think that the each time I hear this song, I will learn something a little different from it. SOHN's latest album is one that is complex in many different ways. But the complexity of each song, makes the album come together, which is a masterpiece. SOHN is an artist who hasn't released too much solo music, but it is a sound that I hope you all check out. Today's instrumental song comes from a television show that I am absolutely obsessed with a while ago. Game of Thrones is a show that has its own saga of a soundtrack. Ramin Djawadi is an absolutely incredible composer, one of the greatest I have heard. This entire soundtrack, across all seasons, has been nothing short of moving and powerful. This song is especially strong because of how eerie, mysterious, and foreboding it is. For the watchers on the wall, this theme is a beautiful and painfully perfect representation of their lives. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
