SANAM and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Today I have some music for you by a band out of India by the name SANAM. Not only does this band write and perform their own music, but the band also does some really beautiful covers of old and popular Bollywood songs. And for today's song, I have one of these wonderful covers for you. This song is one of those classic songs that people of all ages know and love and can sing word for word. This song is one that comes from the early 90s and is still such a favorite of so many people. Now the original song features a few more Indian instruments and musical production techniques. However, this version by SANAM is a stripped down, acoustic version of the song. And it is absolutely lovely. SANAM has a very sweet and soothing voice. His voice is one that is so soft and gentle and it washes over you so gracefully. The rest of the song consists of nice acoustic guitar renditions of the original song, accompanied by an acoustic drum. This version of the song is so raw and different from the original. The original song has such a romantic sound to it but is also filled with a lot more instruments and melodies. The version done by SANAM is simple. The romance in their version comes from the sweet simpleness and tranquility of the song. I can't say which one is better because they are both so different! But SANAM offers us a rendition that is modern, yet somehow retains the very romanticized value that the original song has. From the enchanting vocals to the soft guitar work, this song has everything to be one of those secretly perfect romantic songs. Today's instrumental song is from the movie The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Quite a film title, I know. I loved this movie! Smart, funny, and witty beyond belief! The cast is also stellar and features actors and actresses that I absolutely love. The score for this movie is equally as fun and captivating. Thomas Newman does a lovely job of giving the score a bit of an Indian flair, given the film takes place there. The compositions have a finely tuned balance between sounds. The careful craftsmanship gives us a score that is sweet and gentle, but still vivacious and fun. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
