Alina Baraz & Khalid and Galimatias
Today I have some smooth and nice R&B for you. This song comes to you from two incredible vocalists, Alina Baraz and Khalid. What is cool is that I have listened to both of these artists in their own scope of musicality. Alina Baraz leans more towards this chill step and mellow kind of sound. Her music generally features more synths and gives us that atmospheric kind of sound. Khalid is more on the side of analog R&B, featuring simple instrumentation and a more alternative sound. What we get with this song is such a beautiful blend of the two. We get simple production with this song, and it features more instruments. The soft guitar is flanked by some synth fillers which brings the two artists' styles together in a seamless blend of sounds. Keeping the music at simpler and more acoustic sound allows the vocals to really shine in this. The simple beat at the beginning gives her the ability to show off her impressive sounds and vocal range. Alina Baraz sounds fantastic in this song! She has a gorgeous high toned voice which compliments Khalid's vocals so well. Now when we get to Khalid's voice, we are hit by a voice that is as smooth and rich as chocolate. Khalid's deeper and huskier voice is such a gorgeous compliment to Alina Baraz's feathery and light voice. Khalid's gentle voice is like honey to my ears. Both Alina Baraz and Khalid have this poetic passion which we hear in the lyrics. Even the way the two singers weave in and out the simple beat is full of that dynamic passion. We hear the lyrics reflected in the way the two sing this song, and that is just incredible! The way they slow down when the lyrics talk about slowing down and then return to tempo? Brilliant! These are two artists I recommend keeping on your radar. They are going to go places and exploring a side of R&B music that we haven't heard yet. Today's instrumental song is one by Galimatias. Now there are quite a few collaborations between Galimatias and Alina Baraz. However, I wanted to showcase some of Galimatias' music because his style is one that is very different and pretty darn interesting. This song features the piano as a source of the main melody but also uses tribal drums and instruments to recreate a smooth and laid back melody. This isn't a very musically intricate song with multiple melodies, harmonies, and a bass. This is one that is simply layered, but done so well. There is such a calming and smooth and chilled out vibe to this song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
