Yandel and J Balvin

Today I have some music for you that comes from Latin America. Yandel is one of the more popular artists from the world of reggaeton. This has to be one of my absolute favorite genres to come from the world of Latin music. There is an infectious and fun and sexy energy that comes with reggaeton. What is cool about reggaeton music is that the genre itself is a mix of so many musical styles an influences. We hear Caribbean influences as well as Spanish and American hip hop influences. In fact, much of reggaeton now is influenced by this idea of Latin American hip hop, and it has picked up momentum quickly. This style of music is also rooted in the Latin American beat groove called a tresillo. This beat pattern is standard for Latin American music, especially reggaeton. In fact, this tresillo beat is what makes Latin American music so easy to recognize. Lyrics aside, this tresillo is that beat that every Latin American song has which makes it so unique in comparison to the rest of the world. This is something we clearly hear in Yandel's song, and it is a beat that he is very used to producing with. Yandel does something very different with this song in terms of lyrics. It is a norm for reggaeton lyrics to talk about drugs, sex, violence, etc. The whole point of reggaeton was for people to express their thoughts on what are usually believed to be controversial topics. And while the current state of reggaeton kind of focuses on that, most if it tends to lean more towards sex and partying and subjects related to that kind of topic matter. However, Yandel uses this song to talk about love. It does talk a bit about a beautiful woman, but it is about how Yandel wants her to be his love in life. Instead of focusing on things more promiscuous, Yandel chooses to focus on something more romantic. This is different for a lot of reggaeton artists, but it is something I really like! What is even better, is that we can hear that romantic sentiment in the song. There is a sexiness to the song, however it is not necessarily seductive. There is a difference between the two, that is for sure. And in this song we do get to hear that distinction because there is less focus on having seductive and sensual moments. Yandel does a great job of making sure he stays along the lines of writing a love song even when it comes to musicality. This song has been an absolute earworm for me. I haven't been able to get it out of my head, and quite frankly I am okay with that! The energy is contagious and I love the flow of the song so much. Yandel is on a new musical journey, but I really like where it is headed and cannot wait to see what he has in store for us next. Today's instrumental song is by another amazing reggaeton artist, J Balvin. This is an artist who is known for his vocalization rather than rapping. J Balvin's work can be heard all over the Latin music world, and his songs are more popular than many people think. This is one of his most popular songs, and is one of my all time favorites. This is a seductive and sensual and downright fun. This is the kind of song you would expect to hear at a Latin club. The energy is just right for getting on the dance floor. You can't help but get up and move! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
