Roy Wood$ & Drake and Frank Ocean

Today I have some R&B for you! This song is by Roy Wood$ and features the work of Drake. Now, I know Drake is a big name. Scratch that. Drake is a HUGE name. And if you don't know who he is, that is not a big deal! His music is for some people and not others. But Roy Wood$ is definitely a lesser known name. And that is one of the things I really love about R&B and rap music. A lot of these songs are by lesser known artists and feature the work of more well known artists. This balance is really critical in my opinion. When the more underground artists is the main feature, they are the ones who get more of the spotlight. We get to hear more of their underground sound and get a taste of what their musical style is like. And then the inclusion of the bigger artist is a great way to promote and support the small artist. I see that a lot with rap artists. Often times, it is a singer who features a  really well known rapper, but that works really well. The stigma of rap music is that there are rhymes with a more lyrical chorus. So this works out perfectly. In this song, Roy Wood$ is the lesser known artist, and Drake does a really good job of supporting him. This style of music is right up Drake's alley actually. This is a ballad that definitely leans towards the hip hop style of things, but also includes some electronic work and a more nighttime feel to it. Which is weird to think about, but a lot of songs can be classified as a daytime or nighttime song. This one being the latter. This song has a spacious instrumentation to it, meaning there is this ethereal-esque kind of sound to it. Roy Wood$ has a voice that really suits this style of music. He has a softer voice, one that almost has a sweet tone to it. It isn't very deep either, meaning the surrounding instrumentals can take on a lower and deeper and more full sound. This song has a really great balance between the vocals and instrumentals, a balance that screams phenomenal production. While this song is definitely more low key, I really like the way everything comes together to make a song that has a gentler sound. Today's instrumental song is a Frank Ocean song. Sadly, this is not off his new album, but it is a classic so there is that! Frank Ocean is one of the more under-appreciated artists, and I am really glad that he has put out music lately because his voice is angelic Frank Ocean likes to slow jam his R&B which I am more than happy with. This song definitely has a little bit of that sexy factor even though it is a slower song. Frank Ocean has got a great style to his music and this song is one that gives us the more seductive side of him. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
