Calum Scott and Robyn
Today I have some music for you that comes all the way from the X Factor in England. Now this has to be one of my favorite covers I have heard from that show, and in general. This song is originally by the artist Robyn, whose dance hit is one that has swept across the world. I actually love this song by Robyn, and I still remember hearing her perform this song live. Now with Robyn's version, we get something that does still have a bit more of a dance vibe to it. However, this cover by Calum Scott is completely different. He takes this song and makes it a beautiful masterpiece. He takes this song and shows us the fragile vulnerability behind the lyrics. Calum Scott turns this into a heart-wrenchingly beautiful song, a song that makes you feel that pain of watching someone you care about fall for someone else from afar. Calum Scott has a lovely and strong voice. There isn't ferocity or grit to his voice, but there is a belting kind of powerhouse hidden inside. Calum Scott turned this song into an acoustic and emotional ride that we find ourselves so captivated by. One of the things that make this such a poignant and powerful song is the simplicity of it all. The song features a piano and Calum Scott's vocals. No additional stringed instruments or programmed beats accompany this song. It is a simple and powerful expression of emotion, one that doesn't need any other addition. This cover is absolute perfection on its own. This slowed down version is crisp and haunting, taking this melancholy tune and showing us what it would be like from a man's perspective. Only a few words had to be changed, but the fact that Calum Scott could sing this song without really changing anything, well that should tell you how much work Robyn put into writing the song. This arrangement is a gorgeous and captivating show of Calum Scott's raw musical talent. This is a sadly romantic and thoughtful song, one that we normally don't hear from an artist like Robyn. Robyn's version of the song is absolutely iconic because of how pop and dance worthy it is. That emphasizes the duality of the song, how adrenaline filled nights can take away that pain of loneliness. But it's often those nights out that remind us of how we aren't with the one we want to be with. In this song, nightclubs become the hub for emotional angst and turmoil, which makes it ironic that the song is ideal for the dance floor at a club. But being heard in this piano and acoustic style? Well, that is definitely a bit different and pretty refreshing. We get to hear the emotionally wounded nature of the song more so with Calum Scott. His version is one that appeals to the idea of being broken hearted. It appeals more to those of us who have had our heart broken. Calum Scott uses his voice so well to get the message across. Even the dynamics of his voice add so much richness to the song. The way he has a softer voice which effortlessly soars to become a chorus powerhouse gives the song so much more body. I love this song from Calum Scott, and I am so glad he got to showcase his talent by performing this on the X Factor. This is still one of the best covers I have ever heard, and my heart will always fly around for a little bit. Calum Scott has shown the world what a singer he is, and it's a beautiful and vulnerable and bare human being. Today's instrumental song is actually going to be original. I want you guys to get a good feel as to what the song was supposed to sound like. The way the song was meant to be performed. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
