The Cab and Franz Ferdinand

Today I have some music for you by a band that I haven't heard much of lately. The Cab was one of my favorite bands in high school, but somehow I started to drift away from them. But I recently started listening to them again, and got to hear this gem of a song as if it were the first time again. It has been quite a while since I posted any music by an alternative band like this, and I thought this would be an awesome time for me to not only post music from a rock band, but also post a song that is more of a plot twist in terms of the sound of the song. This song is one that brings punk pop rock to the acoustic guitar and I love that. Alexander DeLeon has one of the best voices I have ever heard. And I am not saying this in any biased way. I mean this guy knows how to use his voice, and can mold it and shape it to sound like whatever will fit the song. In some songs, he has more of a punk voice with the slight jilts and vocal cracks that comes with that. Other times his voice soars in a strong but gentle falsetto. And then we have songs like this where his voice becomes smooth and drips like honey. His silky voice totally nails the whole R&B influence thing that the band has going on with this album. This song showcases Alexander DeLeon's ability to sing with slightly more aggression while still being able to maintain a voice that is angelic and smooth. There are still hints of the punk rock vocalization that we are more used to, but those slight traces give the song just the right amount of edginess. This is one band that I really started getting into because of how incredible the lead vocals were. It is the kind of voice that makes you feel really good, not matter what the rest of the music is doing. I have to give Alexander DeLeon the credit and praise for how beautiful his voice is, and how versatile he is with using it. Now the instrumentals of this song are definitely more energetic and rock focused. These are the kinds of sounds we think about when reminiscing the punk rock phase in life. I won't lie, this band is one that definitely falls into that mold of bands, however, The Cab does an amazing job of still keeping such a great vocal element. The song starts out with a strong acoustic guitar and eventually moves into a rock beat, keeping the song at a nice energizing jam. Now I definitely give the band a lot of props for breaking out of their shell with this song. This was a symbol of the ever growing progression of music that The Cab wants and likes. I personally like where this is headed. This throwback to an older song by The Cab is a great way to hear the progression of the band over time. While they have moved into a really smooth and sensual R&B stage, the rock side of the band will never go away. Though others may disagree, I still think that this is a really great album. The Cab has been out of the limelight for a long time now, but their music is still relevant and exciting. The Cab has done some amazing work, and this song is no exception. Even the lyrics are fun and interesting. One of my favorite lyrics ever is part of the chorus bridge in this song, and I genuinely take that phrase to heart. The Cab is still just as phenomenal to listen to now as it was back then. Today's instrumental song is by one of my favorite bands, Franz Ferdinand. Now I had thought about posting a movie score, but I couldn't find a score that fits with the first song the way Franz Ferdinand does. While this is a very popular song by them, I think it is one that showcases a lot of their ability as artists and musicians. There are a lot of little intricacies to the instrumentals of this song, and they also happen to meld so well with the first song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
