Taare Zameen Par and Cloud Atlas

Today I have music for you that comes from one of the greatest Hindi movies I have ever seen. Taare Zameen Par translates to Like Stars on Earth. This movie is one of the most beautiful, moving, and inspiring films I have ever seen. The story surrounds the journey of a child who is dyslexic. But what makes this movie so great is the social commentary it provides on the way society perceives children. A lot of times we focus on what is in the whirlwind around us that we forget to pay attention to those who will make up the future. This is a movie about loving and respecting children despite everything. This movie also especially focuses on children with special needs. In India, it is common to see how ill-treated those with special needs are. But this movie decides to tackle that issue and weave in commentary about education as well. In result, we get a film that is so heart warming and moving. This is a film that you can watch after years and still cry and feel the emotional pull of the film. The lyrics of this song are a perfect reflection of the message of the movie. It addresses how special each child is, no matter who they are. It is about accepting the beauty that each child has. This kind of powerful message is eloquently and enchantingly described in the lyrics of this song. The song keeps referring to children as stars on Earth, and that perhaps is one of the greatest things I have heard. This song is a very gentle and soft-spoken one. There are no major vocal changes or tempo changes, no drop or climactic moment either. This is a simple song, one that depicts the lightness of a child's heart and soul. The song begins with shimmering bells which create this feeling like we entering a dream, a state of imagination. The rest of the song remains simple instrumentally. What makes the song really stand out though, is the video with which the song correlates to. This video is so incredibly well done and portrays the entire message of the movie. It brings the message of the song full circle and demonstrates how we can change our approach to interacting with special persons. I love how this video shows nothing by love and compassion to those who often times don't ever feel those emotions. This video is so incredibly moving and is the perfect compliment to this title track. There is a rare and special kind of beauty to be heard and seen when all mediums give the same message. Taare Zameen Par is a movie that takes the best of music, film, and music videos, and arranges them in a way to expose the true wonders of a child's world. We get to feel every emotion the child feels and in turn. This kind of emotive power is not only spectacular, but it is humbling as well. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Cloud Atlas. This is not the main sextet of the score but is an extension of a composition that is riveting and spellbinding. This is another movie that is moving and poignant, however, in a very different way compared to Taare Zameen Par. However, both of these artists have found a way to be gentle and handle things in a more creative way. These are two songs that act almost like soul food for our quiet and deeply hidden emotional side. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
