Celebrating Four Years

Well this month happens to be a special month for this blog. 4 years ago, I started this blog with the intention of bringing music to the world. And I am so happy to see how far it has come and how much it has evolved. From the simple beginnings of just picking a couple of songs, I love how this blog has ended up. Now it is more than music sharing, but is also a review and a musical breakdown and a way for me to fully express how I feel about the music. This blog has seen so many holidays, special events, and remembrances. And over the course of these four years, over 100 different artists have been featured, from all over the world. I want to give out my thanks to everyone who takes the time to read about the music. Thank you so much for opening your minds and exploring all the nooks and crannies of the music world. Thank you for diving deep into genres that most people find weird or unpopular. And thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your lives, for allowing the music become a part of your lives. And on that note, I want to start this off with a song that has recently gained a lot of traction in the underground music scene. Gallant is one of those artists that gained an incredible viral audience and has seeped his way into other mediums of music. Gallant has quite a presence on Spotify as well and is currently touring for his debut album. And what an album it is! Gallant has these soaring falsettos, sleek hooks, and deep songwriting, all things we get in this song. At the beginning, we get Gallant's soulful and softer side. And then we get to the chorus which is an explosion of  power and sound. One of the things that are so great about this is that Gallant's R&B vocals are juxtaposed with this bluesy bass guitar, creating this slow and sexy kind of jam. However, This song is so well remixed and boasts a wonderful mix of sounds. We get to hear the boastful call of the horns and soulful brass. The big band and jazz influences in this song are absolutely fantastic and give this song a different kind of soul and vibrancy.  We get to hear the complete dynamism and range that Gallant has within his vocal capacity and genre blending. Gallant is generally an R&B singer, but with this, we get to see his R&B sound expand to something that is bright and full of energy and old soul. We get to hear his falsetto, his lower notes, and can indulge in his incredible harmonies. That is actually another thing that Gallant does ridiculously well. He knows how to harmonize in a way to make those harmonies shine throughout the chorus, and he knows how to layer those harmonies perfectly with the instrumentals. We don't get weird layering or awkward meshing of sound, rather, a thick sound and flowing sound, kind of like the way something moves through molasses. Strange comparison, I know, but once you hear the song it will make complete sense.  I just cannot get enough of this jazz filled remix! It works so incredibly well because it is played in that perfect jazzy blues style that you would hear in a smokey bar. It has that seductive appeal while also giving Gallant a wonderful support. Just like honey, this song is smooth, sweet and golden. Today's instrumental song is along the lines of chillhop. This has to be one of the best genres to relax to. There is such a nice laid back sound to chillhop, and Limes does an awesome job of giving this song a nice dynamism that doesn't overdo the energy levels. We get a really nice and steady percussion section with an ever moving piano line that keeps us engaged but not over stimulated. The piano melodies in this song follow the jazz formula, meaning there really isn't a formula at all! Whether you are studying, doing work, or just haning out, this song is such a great and nicely relaxed song to jam to.
