Sky Ferreira and Memento

Today I have some music for you by a breakthrough artist by the name Sky Ferreira. She has experimented with a few different styles before, but this song is what I think will really put her on the map. It's this song that really solidifies her sound. This song is such a well-done piece, one that takes a simple trick and turns it into something we cannot get enough of. This song features crisper vocals interspersed with a chorus that has longer moments and a smoother flow. This song is an interesting mix of being a dance-pop song while also being a bit melancholy. Sky Ferreira sings the chorus with sullen undertones and the sound of wistful hope permeates the entire song. There is a twinkly electronic sound to the song which is almost a contrast to the gloomier, sexier vocals of Sky Ferreira. That mix of emotions felt throughout the song is exactly what the lyrics are describing, and I love how the sound reflects that roller coaster. Overall, though, the song has this overcast chill kind of vibe, the kind of song I would listen to while standing outside on a rainy night. It has that ability to feel good and more somber at the same time, which is honestly really nice to listen to. There is a modern breeziness to the song and has this sad kind of funk that comes together so beautifully. This song has a wonderfully haunting sound as well, something that comes from the wispier and lighter vocals of Sky Ferreira. This song is one of those unlikely anthems, the kind of song that takes you by surprise. This is not your stereotypical fun and light hearted kind of anthem but is something that is so potent that you cannot seem to get enough of it. There are a transcendence and brilliance to this song that cannot be ignored. Sky Ferreira has created a pop song that goes beyond what we consider to be normal pop and delivers a song that lyrically and musically describes the conflict of emotions we all feel. While we haven't heard much else from Sky Ferriera, this song is one that I am unable to get enough of. There is a genuine coolness to the song that makes me want to get lost in the rain. I am definitely going to have to go back and listen to the rest of Sky Ferreira's releases! Today's instrumental song is from the movie Memento. The concept of this movie is pretty wicked, and I found it to be extremely compelling. This theme is not extremely dynamic, but what makes it so wonderful is the way everything flows so smoothly. There aren't any punctuated moments that highlight the song, rather the entire song softly glows which is perfect for the kind of movie Memento is. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
