Jack Vidgen and Labrinth

Today I have a song for you that is an absolute classic. This song is possibly the most famous songs by Whitney Houston and is a song that people around the world recognize. However, the version I have for you today is actually a cover of the song. This cover is sung by the Australian singer, Jack Vidgen. I would like to first point out that we have a male who is tackling this song. It isn't often that we hear male vocalists cover this song, but I really like that switch up. Second, I want to point out how incredibly beautiful Jack Vidgen's voice is. I mean it is like smooth marble. His voice is extremely powerful but so sweet at the same time. You can clearly tell that he is feeling this song as he performs it. There is so much passion and strength in his voice, and the real kicker is that Jack Vidgen was a young teenager when he recorded this. Can you imagine being fourteen years old and having a voice as magical and unbelievable as his? The rarity of his talent and skill is what makes this performance so beautiful. In all honesty, Jack Vidgen treats this song as a masterpiece. He is able to bring the same amount of vibrancy and soul to this song that Whitney Houston brought with her. Jack Vidgen makes this such a grand song, one that is full of vulnerability and emotion. I love the way Jack Vidgen expresses the emotional aspect of the song so freely with his rougher vocals and immediately is able to belt out smooth and high notes. Jack Vidgen is absolutely delightful and does this song justice. He takes it and is able to make it his own while still paying homage to Whitney Houston. That kind of cover is the greatest way to really respect an artist and their work. I really love this cover and will always remain amazed by Jack Vidgen's unbelievable voice. Today's instrumental song is one that I hold pretty dear. This song is by Labrinth, an artist from the UK. This song is one that always leaves me feeling incredibly emotional. Every time I hear this song, I am transfixed by its beauty and sheer heart-wrenching melody. Labrinth is a special artist for me because his music has gotten me through so much, and this song especially is one that touches my heart in a way that so many have been unable to. Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
