The White Stripes and The Arctic Monkeys
Today I have some interesting music for you, in the sense that you may find it a little bit quirky. Today's first song is by the ever incredible band by the name The White Stripes. Now The White Stripes is probably one of the most iconic bands of the late 90's and early 00's. This is a band that everyone seems to know, even if they have never heard a song by them. It is just one of those names that you know, regardless of what kind of music you listen to. What I like about this band is the blending of grunge rock and blues rock to create songs that have some really great bass guitar work in accompaniment with heavy drum work. The White Stripes tends to ditch the dependence on the electric guitar in favor of the lower tones and deep thrum of the bass guitar. This is a song that makes you automatically feel like a badass and a rebel. That is one of the things that The White Stripes can do to you-make you feel like the coolest and most suave person in the world. This song just oozes that original kind of swagger. Not what people consider "swag," but true gangster swagger. This song makes me feel like a complete boss in the world around me. It makes me feel almost a bit powerful as well. I'm telling you, that bass guitar is mighty powerful. This song is actually about learning how to deal with the dysfunctional world that we all seem to find ourselves trapped in at some point in time. While most people would not consider music like this, music that sounds like this something that is taken to heart, I think this song is one that everyone can relate to. Yes, the rock does throw some people off, but the meaning of the song is what really makes us connect to it. The White Stripes was absolutely genius with their music and while I am sad to say they don't make music anymore, I can say that binge listening to their albums is perfectly acceptable! Today's instrumental song is by a band out of the UK that we have all come to love and seriously rock out to. The Arctic Monkeys delivered us some of the best songs we've heard from them with this album. And this is one of my favorite songs off the album! The thing that makes The Arctic Monkeys so great is their complete embrace of the bass guitar taking a huge lead. A lot of times the bass guitar gets thrown into the background, providing that thrum that kind of pulses the song onwards. But with this song, the bass guitar is the one that is absolutely kicking ass. And that my friends, is how it is done! I mean the band completely nails it with this one, providing and energetic anthem to walk into room like you own the place. And let me tell you, that is an awesome feeling. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
