The Peaky Blinders and The Godfather

Today's song is from the BBC television show, Peaky Blinders. I am absolutely hooked on this show! I started it only a few days ago and have not been able to stop watching it. This is a show that is a historical crime drama, filled with mystery and intrigue and gangsters. I think it definitely makes it even better since it is set during the 1920's. It really brings the kind of "gangster" that I really really love. The cunning, sly, ruthless, and powerful aura that seems to surround the gangsters of the 1920's is alluring and a bit seductive. This song is by the band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and is definitely a quirky song. But this is the kind of song that sums up what the show is like so wonderfully. It captures the essence of the story incredibly well and it also captures the main character in a way that you wouldn't really expect. Now I won't lie to you, this may be one of the strangest songs you have heard, but that is completely okay! I find this song weirdly powerful, and that is probably because I associate it with the show. But the opening of the song is like this ominous Western stand off kind of sound. I mean this song has gangster written all over it. This song is just so weirdly perfect to capture the entirety of the show. There is this subtle menacing nature to the song as it opens, and as the song progresses, the ominous gloom and menace grows and grows. The song has this wonderfully Gothic vibe to it, talking about the things that are there to haunt us. Dripping with the flair and finesse of an Edgar Allen Poe story, this song is one that captures you and grips you. In a very similar way that the show grabs you and makes you want to sit for more. I highly recommend you all go and give this show a try because it is absolutely phenomenal! Today's instrumental song is from the movie The Godfather. The king of all gangster movies, this movie was a perfect compliment to the first song. The Godfather's score is so beautifully done because of how subtly sinister it is. There is a sophistication to the score that cannot be matched, capturing the glamorous and dangerous life of a member of the mafia. This composition relies heavily on the strings to create an eerie and haunting sound that still has some kind of grace to it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
