SG Lewis & Gallant and Flume

Today I have some music for you by one of the hottest underground producers in the European scene, SG Lewis. What is kind of ironic, is that I stumbled upon this particular producer because of the featured vocalist on this song. Gallant is the vocal powerhouse of the song, and I recently went on a Gallant binge which turned up this song. But I am honestly really glad that I ended up getting to hear this song because it is pretty stunning. This is the kind of music for all the chill music heads out there, the ones who are looking for something to just jam out to or maybe take with them to more of a club scene. Because of Gallant's collaboration, there is an R&B flavor added to this song. And thankfully enough, SG Lewis does a great job of giving the song enough funk so that Gallant has wiggle room to experiment and express his own vocal style.Gallant and SG Lewis really compliment each other and I like the way each artist has a respect for the other that is heard in the song. Gallant has some strong and soulful vocals, but we never feel like his vocal work overshadows the work done by SG Lewis. On the flip side, SG Lewis has crafted a song that has a danceable and lively sound to it, but also has enough sadness to bring the song down to something that is also chill. Now the lyrics are what really give us an idea about the song and what is happening. These are very well written, talking about relationships and whether or not we have the ability to feel vulnerable. I love this topic because it is all about a moment of falling for someone that we all seem to conveniently ignore in music. This is all about that moment when you question whether or not your feelings for a person are going to outweigh your desire to not be vulnerable. And I really like that SG Lewis had Gallant sing about this topic because his voice is perfectly suited to capture the soulful melancholy of being vulnerable and not knowing, while his stronger moments are accompanied by some really great synth work.  SG Lewis has some really serious synth layering going on the song, along with heartbeat of a percussion sound to keep the song driving forward. SG Lewis' breezy but dramatically chill synth layering, serve as a fantastic backdrop for Gallant's effortless voice. I have to be honest, this collaboration between SG Lewis and Gallant is pretty spectacular. I hope this is just the beginning of their collaborative effort because I would love to hear so much more from these two artists. Today's instrumental song is by an artist who also has the R&B and electronic sound down. Now Flume does this in a very different way, not necessarily being chill but not super energetic either. There is an intensity to Flume's music that we don't hear in the first song. However, this is an artist who is one of those unspoken geniuses. His music is incredibly riveting and a wonderful blend of sounds and colors and emotions. Flume is one of my favorite DJ's and for good reason. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
