One Direction and Bridge to Terabithia

Today I have a song for you by the boy band that took the world by storm, and is now out on hiatus for a little while. One Direction is one of the biggest phenomenons in music these past few years, and it is starting to become clear as to why. One Direction has finally matured into a musical group that can appeal to all kinds of listeners. From the younger crowd to the older crowd, male and female, romantics and everywhere in between, One Direction seems to be the group that has it all. And their success story has everything to do with how talented they are. Now one of the things I find impressive and really quite wonderful, is their evolution throughout the course of their career so far. The sound that One Direction started with is vastly different from what we hear from them today. For starters, they have ditched the high energy pop in favor of more contemporary and grounded music. There is a more wholesome nature to their music and more experimentation. One thing that hasn't changed though is the level of emotion that some of the songs have. From the debut album to the current album, there has been at least one song per album that has been an emotional and poignant song. It has been the song for heartbreak and for love, and this is one that I really love. This song is from their second or third album and is one that I have really come to love. For starters, the balance of all five voices is really there. I mean we genuinely hear each voice and each verse that they sing. I for one am also very happy that they showcased Zayn Malik's voice during the chorus. His voice adds the raw emotion and gentleness to the song, making it sound the way that it really should. There is also fantastic blending that happens in this song. One of the greatest assets One Direction has is the ability to really mix and blend their voices together. Whether it be over laying melodies or harmonies, there is a really nice flow and smoothness to the inclusion of all five vocals. Despite the differring sounds each voice has, they blend still makes it as flawless and smooth as a watercolor painting. This song is a little bit more on the melancholy side, which is not a common thread for the boys to follow. However, they do a fantastic job of really letting us feel the same level of emotional and romantic grief the song is all about. The guys do a great job of conveying those painful moments with heavily punctuated words mixed with slower and more drawn out vowels. The way the lyrics are sung is absolutely beautiful. The words are sung with a lot of meaning and that makes a whole world of difference with a heart stringing song like this one. I really have been able to find that One Direction's style is one that I can enjoy and even feel emotionally connected to. And I really do appreciate that. While One Direction is on hiatus, I hope they continue to create music because I would love to hear more like this. Today's instrumetnal song is from the movie Bridge to Terabithia. I love this movie, despite how gut wrenching it can be. This film is all about the power of friendship and the kind of love that grows and fosters a long lasting relationship. This is a film all about the wonders of imagination and the power that it has to change the way we see and live in the world. This is a beautiful score to accompany a brilliant movie, both of which I hope you check out. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
