Colbie Caillat and Meet the Robinsons

Today I have a really nice and summery song for you by the lovely artist known as Colbie Caillat. This is an artist who has really got the sweet kind of romantic music down to an art. This song in particular is a beautiful ballad about falling in love, and my does she do a wonderful job with it. This song starts out with a nice guitar melody that is full of sound. It isn't just one or two strings, but a multitude of strings, octaves, and  a wonderful chord progression. This is a song that relies heavily on the guitar to carry it through musically. This is a very contemporary song, one that is calmer and more about the song quality rather than the hype factor. This is a very adorable and genuinely cute song, one that talks about being head over heels for someone.  I love how all we really hear in the background is a bunch of acoustic guitars and simple keyboard work. The simplicity of the song is what makes it so wonderful though. There is something so pure and wonderful about the fact that there is genuinely very few instruments involved. That simplicity allows us to enjoy the song in its entirety and enjoy what the song is about. As the song goes through, we get to hear more instruments like the drums and such, but I like that the song itself crescendos into that. Going from a calmer sound and ramping up into something that is still on the calmer side, but has a different feel to it. This whole song goes from being a warm coffeehouse song to being a song that reminds you of driving down the coastline during sunset while the wind blows through your hair. And while that is hard to put into terms musically, it is an image and idea of what this song represents and makes people feel. Now Colbie Caillat has a beautiful voice. IT is a softer sounding voice and is one that is also on the medium end of the vocal spectrum. However, this song takes a lower pitch, something that is soothing ad embracing rather than pretty and dainty. Colbie Caillat is actually one of those solo singers that definitely has a blusier voice, one that can do acoustic contemporary work and switch to pop and then switch into these more romantic pieces. It is really quite nice! Colbie Caillat has such a heart warming voice. It has this comforting kind of sound to it, something that reminds me of what it is like to be in a warm embrace. That is really nice because it isn't that her voice is dripping in sugar, nor his her voice like some masetro singer. But it is so human and down to earth, something that I can easily relate to and understand. The vocal layerings and harmonies are also done in her voice for this song and the sound lovely together. There are subtler layers until the end, but I enjoyed the fact that those melodies and harmonies exist in the song. It gives the music so much body and volume, so much substance and fullness. This is by far one of my favorites by her, and this song is a good indication as to why she is such a great singer. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Meet the Robinsons. A fantastic movie in my opinion! This is one of those rarer and lesser known films which need to really be watched more often because of how awesome and creative and wonderfully magical the movies are. Originally this song is by Rob Thomas, but it became the main theme for the movie, an apt pairing. Seriously, go watch this movie if you haven't! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
