Cassie and Janet Jackson

Today I have some more R&B music for you by the singer known as Cassie. She is quite a soulful singer, but definitely identifies more with the hip hop and R&B side of music. Cassie is someone who sings with so much character and life. Her sheer ability as a singer is clearly heard through the song and the way that she is able to completely control her voice. A lot of vocalists struggle with controlling their voices completely, however, Cassie is able to handle that powerful voice. This song is one of those that is instantly addictive. It is a song that you just cannot get enough of. And of course it helps that we get some contribution from P. Diddy. But the two of these figures together really makes for a song that is both catchy and seductive. This song has such a silky smooth melody that makes you want to flow with it. The mid-tempo beat is flanked by some synth work and choral work. This is a really nice background support for Cassie's vocals. This version of the song is remixed and has a little bit more intensity to it, but I really like that. There is a darker edge with this remix which makes this song even sultrier. Cassie's voice has this natural sexiness to it and the backdrop beats accentuate that seductiveness. What I like the most about this song is the fact that it sounds like late 1990's and early 2000's hip hop music. This is a vintage kind of track and has this hypnotic whistle in the back that makes it very catchy and appealing. Cassie has been compared to Janet Jackson, and I can totally see that! Speaking of Janet Jackson, that brings me today's instrumental song. This is a version of one of Janet Jackson's more popular recent hits. I am in love with this song. It is sexy and seductive, energetic, and a phenomenal dance song. Janet Jackson is a singer who knows how to really perform, and this song is worthy of a great performance. Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
