Zayn Malik and X-Men: First Class

Today I have the latest single by Zayn Malik for you. It seems like Zayn Malik has really discovered what his sound his, what style of music he needs to produce for a voice like his. As someone who is very much into R&B, this song was something that left me absolutely speechless. While I can't say that the lyrics are anything incredibly special, it is the delivery of these lyrics that makes this song something that draws you in and doesn't let you go. The chord progression and key changes in this song are absolutely mind blowing, something that is breathtakingly stark and hauntingly beautiful. This song has an almost eerie sound to it, but that is something that makes this song stand out among all of the R&B songs to come out lately. Zayn Malik sings very gently, letting a more vulnerable and emotive side show, while soaring through his falsetto and bringing it back down to a soft touch. The dreamy and ambient synth provides to be an ethereal accompaniment to the pensive vocals that Zayn Malik tends to favor for this song. What makes this song such a statement, is that this is a slow ballad, rather than just a simple R&B filler song. This is a song where there is a story being told, and while the story is something we have heard in other ballads before, there is something that has to be said about the ability to create a ballad. This is such a testament to Zayn Malik's talent, as we hear him exhibiting his ability to tell a story through his music. Any attempt to listen to anything other than Zayn Malik's voice is pretty darn futile. No matter how much you try to pay attention to the percussion beats or the electric guitar strums, you revert back to following the peaks and valleys of his vocal range in the song. There is such a gentle but powerful push to Zayn Malik's voice, and I cannot deny how brilliant this song really is. I have found myself singing this song, wanting to trace the path that his falsetto draws, and taking in the ambient synths. I have to say, out of the two singles he has put out, this one overshadows the first by a long shot. If the rest of his album has the same kind of power, I know we will all be in for such a treat when it gets released. Today's instrumental song is from the movie X Men: First Class. I have to say, this is a score that gets highly underrated, mainly because people tend to focus on the comic book side of things more. Which I totally understand! But this scene in the movie, well it was something that really moved me. The title of the piece kind of lets you in on what the song is about, finding that balance between two ends of the spectrum. And I think this particular composition does just that. It begins as something that is softer and darker, one that holds more things to secret. But as it progresses, the piece crescendos into this beautiful mass of strings and percussion, of horns and electric guitars. It grows into something that sings of hope and wonder, and becomes a surreal wall of sound. I absolutely love these scores, and I am so excited to listen to what the next movie has for us to listen to. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
