Swanand Kirkire & Ram Sampath and The Maine

Today I have an absolutely a beautiful song for you, coming from my mother country, India. This has to be one of the most moving and comforting songs I have heard in such a long time. A little preface on this song, but the meaning of it lies in the metaphor of a little bird. This is something that a lot of Indian songs do, compare life to a series of metaphors and scenes of nature. But the little bird in this song actually refers to the younger sisters and the young daughters of the world. This is a song about how wonderfully strong they are, despite all the darkness surrounding us. But it is also a reminder to appreciate and love the beauty of the world and themselves, and enjoy the wonder that is being a girl. I have to say, this song almost made me cry because of how bright and calm this song is. The rich and moving meaning of the song makes this something that leaves the heart and soul in a state of love and warmth and comfort. This is such a heartwarming song, both in lyrical content and performance. This song was written and sung by Swanand Kirkire, and the music was composed by Ram Sampath. This duo is one that I would never want to break apart because of the magic they create with this song. The music employs a mix of modern and traditional instruments, many of which come from India. The guitar is used a lot in this song as well, which serves as a lovely accompaniment to the rest of the music. But we also get to hear the undertones of a sitar, some harmonium, and a little bit of tabla as well. It is the gentle balance of all of these instruments that gives this song a soft and rounded sound. Swanand Kirkire has a voice that is absolutely moving.  His voice is crisp and clean, with the touch of a feather. He has a voice that is inviting and comforting, like a fireplace on a rainy day. His voice is one that bears resemblance to some other vocalists, but the passion with which he sings is somethign that cannot ever be replicated. The way Swanand Kirkire sings, makes you feel every word and lyric. Even if you do not understand the language, you can understand the sentiment. You can understand and feel the soft caress of his voice on your heart and soul, and breathe that comfort in. His voice leaves you mesmerized and entranced, not wanting it to end. The song in its entirety is one that we wish would never end. It is that enchanting, and draws you in the way a fairy would. This is a song that truly is magic, and I would not want it to sound any other way. Today's instrumental song is by the band The Maine. Now this is a band that people would not generally put with this first song, but I could not think of any other song than this. While you can slightly hear the lyrics in the background, I thought the overall melody and style of the song went so well with the first song. From opposing hemispheres, yet the touching nature is the same. The ability to make us feel remains. And this is actually my favorite song by The Maine! Which can be clear as to why. This song has a gentle melody as well, dominated by an acoustic guitar. That is all the song really needed,as there are no other instruments present! At least until the last chorus. Then we get some orchestral sounds and a piano, but for a majority of the song, all we get is a voice and guitar. This stripped down song is one that leaves you with your own scars bared to show the world. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
