Viva Voce and Muse

Today I have music for you by a band called Viva Voce. Now this is a band that really likes to keep their genres open in terms of what kind of music they produce. They like to span all kinds of the rock spectrum, which I think is really cool. This song in particular takes on the more folk sound of things. The guitar is what really makes this song what it is, and gives it that Wild West flair. That moment when that first intense guitar strum is made, the song molds itself into something radiates a sense of power and danger. And I love it! This song makes me feel like I could walk in like I own the place, makes me feel like I can stride wherever I go. That guitar work is so integral to making this song have that effect. There is a great simplicity to the musicality of this song in general. A harmonica, percussion beat, and guitar is all we get, and it is all the song needs. This song has a desert-dry kind of sound, one that makes you think of all those old cowboy movies we watch. This song thrives on that hypnotic Americana foundation, with sleepy vocals and buzzing guitars. This song has two vocalists that harmonize together really well. Sometimes it can be hard for male and female vocals to work, depending on the range of both singers. But in this song, we get the female vocals layered on top of the deeper, vibrating male vocals. But with this song, their voices are so calm, to the point where it is almost sinister and dark. Which is absolutely fantastic! We get this really awesome drum beat, something pounds and gives us a very clear sense of rhythm. The heavy percussion gives the song that continual drive and push forward, which just adds to the whole idea of being a badass. You combine that with the screaming lead guitar, and you have a song that is filled with a sense of power and might. I mean this guitar work is incredible! The melodies are simple, but so clear and so clean. Viva Voce is often a very overlooked band, but I needed to share this song because it is one of the greatest folk rock songs I have ever heard. Today's instrumental song is one by the great band Muse. This is a band that I am absolutely in love with, though I haven't listened to their music for a while. But this song is just the best compliment to the first song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
