The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pocahontas
Today I have music for you from a musical that was adapted from a movie. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is an extremely fantastic movie, one that talks about a lot of things without us even realizing it. Now last week, the official musical soundtrack was released, and so I decided to give it a listen. I was completely spellbound and speechless. There is a special kind of beauty that comes with a choir and orchestra. Now what is cool about this song and the album as a whole, is that each vocalist is a character. They still have the lines of their original characters, and their collective voice is what makes the choir. This is the first song that appears in the movie and in the musical, and it is still my favorite. Even the narrator has a singing version of the narrator lines. And each person has something fantastic to offer. Whether it is the character line they are providing, or a part of the choir, each voice is so beautiful and come together to make this rendition something that sweeps you off your feet. Each singer has a very distinct voice and sound, especially when they take on their character's persona. There is such a wide emotional range in this song and the album in general, and that makes it something that is even more enjoyable. Having that passion and lust for life is a driving factor in this production, and each singer is able to bring their own version of that. And the orchestra did such a damn good job of providing musical support and backbone The orchestral background has this slight epicness. Not in the way that makes it seem like some intense action movie, but the epicness that comes with being in the presence of me, but we can see. Having everyone really get into their character takes a lot of fun, and I think being to play something that isn't necessarily conventional. I just love the way this rendition is done. Not a note is out of place, nor a single medal. It is just such a great song to listen to and I hope that you all check it out! How can you ever go wrong with that! Today's instrumental song is from the movie Pocahontas. Yes today is a Disney day, but these are all such classic movies! Now this song is one of the best songs ever. It is so beautiful, and I love the fact that we can really the Native American instruments be included on this. This is a song that is full of such dynamic movement, from a crescendo back to a decrescendo, to accenting bow strokes and crashing cymbals. And the way the last chorus is brought to life with a long pause, one that would make you hold your breath. God this has to be one of my favorite songs from my youth. I just got so excited about these Disney things. But I do have to say, there are some really nice ones here. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
