The 1975 and Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Today I have the newest single by The 1975. I am super excited for this album because we get to hear a different side of The 1975. Their debut album was darker, both lyrically and musically. But this song is a really bright and poppy song. More so than normal for The 1975. This is an album that is going to be filled with more color and more excitement, rather than having those darker melodies and more melancholy sounds. From what I gather with this song and the first single they dropped for the album, there is a lot more light heartedness to the musicality of the songs, even if the lyrics aren't quite so. This song is a lot funkier and more upbeat than a lot of the music we have heard from The 1975. This is an exhilarating and somewhat provocative pop song, something that the pop scene in general desperately needs. Instead of sticking to topics about love, sex, alcohol, and staying strong, The 1975 goes with topics that we all really feel on a day to day basis. Matt Healy captures the rhythm of people who are just tired of all kinds of pressure, before life tends to catch up. And the thing is, he does it really well, to the point that he is able to understand us completely. And it is this theme that makes the undeniable pop sound of this song totally and completely okay. Because it is a really cool way to juxtapose that more turbulent and uncertain side of things with something bright and happy and fun. This song kind of has an 80's feel to it, with the keyboards and piano work and synths. But then we get to hear the electric guitar soar during the instrumental portion of the song, and it takes us away with the melody. This is the kind of song that you can't help bobbing your head to, maybe tapping your foot, or maybe even grooving out a bit. That is the absolute beauty of a song like this. It is the kind of song that you can't get out of your head, and it is the kind of song that pulls you into its natural groove. That is something I have to seriously commend The 1975 on. They are fantastic at creating songs that are absolute earworms. They get stuck in your head, and sometimes you may find yourself humming or singing their songs without even realizing it. But I also have to give it to The 1975 for writing lyrics and composing music that go so well together, well enough to make us all fall in love with their music. There is a sense of simplicity in their musical process, but that simplicity makes the music even more raw. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This is a score that isn't necessarily your conventional example of a movie score. It is not something very orchestral, nor does it have an epicness to it. But this score is absolutely perfect for the movie it serves. For those of you who haven't seen it, Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a teenage classic. And for all the adventures and shenanigans pulled in the movie, this haphazard arrangement of instruments is absolutely perfect. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
