Mike Dingam and The Cinematic Orchestra
Today I have music for you that runs along the slower and more emotional side of things. This song is by the artist Mike Dingam. He isn't the most popular or well known artist, but often times it is those lesser known singers who are able to give us some of the most moving and beautiful songs. This song is one that pulled at my heart from the first listen. The musicality and movement of the song is so aptly and wonderfully described by the title of the song. This is the kind of song that makes you feel both the ups and downs of being in love. The ecstasy and wonder of being in love, and the shattering pain of losing love. Mike Dingam conveys this dynamic, these opposing feelings, in the most hauntingly simple and beautiful way. All we get with this song is Mike Dingam's voice and the piano. No other instruments, no extra add ins, and no supporting vocals. This is just a raw performance. This is a performance in which Mike Dingam bears his soul and heart to us. This song is one where we get to hear him, without the added noise of other instruments and singers. There is a difference from hearing a slower and sadder song versus hearing a song like this. There is so much vulnerability and power to be experienced through a song like this. On one hand, we can feel the purity of emotions being sung through the words. We can feel the grief in losing love. But we can also feel the unrefined strength in this song. We can hear the surges of emotion when the song reaches that climatic moment. We can really feel. And that is what makes this song so special. It is one thing to be able to connect to a more emotional and moving song, and it is another to be able to experience the song. The power of simplicity is what makes this a song that we can live and breathe and feel and ache for. Mike Dingam has such a sentimental and emotive voice, one that has the ability to be strong and soft at the same time. He doesn't really rasp his way through the song, but sings so clearly and precisely so we get to understand what his lyrics are saying. I am just so moved by this song, something so poignant and almost indescribable. It is songs like this that remind me that sometimes you cannot do justice to the real beauty of the world. And there are not enough words to describe the heart-rending beauty in this song. Today's instrumental song is by a group out of London called The Cinematic Orchestra. This is a group of musicians who create and perform their own orchestral and instrumental music. And let me tell you, their work is spectacularly awing. Each piece has so much character and tells a story. There are romantic songs, energetic songs, woefully hopeful songs, and inspiring songs. This composition in particular was used in the movie The Theory of Everything. Now this movie is the story of Stephen Hawking, a man who overcame death itself to be the successful scientist he is today. And in saying so, this piece follows the darker but lovely and inspiring track. I have to say, this is a piece that sums up the movie quite well. I recommend you go watch the movie if you haven't already, and also check out the rest of The Cinematic Orchestra's music. It is so creative and dynamic and nothing short of rendering you speechless. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
