Dhoom and Delirious & Alex K

Today I have some really cool music for you. Both of these songs have an ethnic and cultural feel to them, so that shakes things up a bit! This first song is an older song from the world of Bollywood. Now it isn't super old, as in from the 70's or 80's. But this song comes from the early years of my childhood and strangely enough, is one that I still remember listening to for the first time. This song comes from the movie Dhoom, a trilogy of movies centered around a cop and catching criminals. This is the main theme for the first of these movies. This is the first song to represent the series, and I love it! I have actually heard some sick remixes of this song, but haven't been able to find them on YouTube, which is a tragedy. But all three movies have had awesome theme songs. Each one has been different, depending on the plot of the movie. But all in all, definitely am happy with the way the songs turned out. So this one being the oldest, being the original, features a lot less electronic work. There is way more instrumentation and there is more of that exotic magical feel to it. Now part of the reason for that is definitely because of where the song is placed in the movie, but in any case, I love how the song includes a lot of different melodic styles. The main melody for the chorus features that Middle Eastern vibe. And on top of that, we get really strong female vocals. I mean the vocals just throw this wall of energy and strength at you, and I really like that. A lot of times Bollywood tends toward the gentle and sweet side of femininity. But this song throws that out the window and makes the female vocals a powerhouse. This song is the best from this movie, hands down, and really takes meaning to the word Dhoom. Today's instrumental song is absolutely killer. This song is by the DJs Delirious & Alex K. This song takes a really traditional Middle Eastern sound, and turns it into something that is just out of this world. What I really like about this song is how percussion based it is. While the Middle East is known for their stereotypical scale, a specific set of notes, people tend to forget how awesome their percussion is. This song makes me feel like I have just walked into a bazaar from the times of Persia. This is a song that really puts you in that romanticized mind set of the Middle East when listening to it. I have to say, that there is a lot of percussion that goes on in this song, so if that bothers you in any way, then maybe take it easy with this song. But this song is weirdly fantastic for belly dancing. It has a fast rhythm, with a melody based in how the beats are changed up, but follow the same speed. That along with the brief moments of synth melody, make this an intense song that would be perfect for a high energy belly dance routine. But in general, this song is very culturally focused, something that really sounds from the area of the world that it originates. I can really appreciate how that sounds, and I love how a lot of electronic artists are starting to take more notice of that mystical Middle Eastern melody. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
