Barcelona and Oblivion
Today I have some music for you by a trio that make up a band I am absolutely in love with. Barcelona is one of those underground bands that doesn't necessarily fit the stereotype of what a "band" is supposed to sound like. I mean some people would call them and indie rock band, but even that is not necessarily the most accurate description of Barcelona's sound. See, a lot of their music tends to follow the lines of synth pop and indie pop and a more transcendent kind of sound. That is actually one of my favorite things about Barcelona. Their music has a sound that can take you to a different state of being, a different state of thinking and feeling. And that is something so special and amazing. Barcelona's vocals usually tend to be more vulnerable and gentle and soft. There is a sense of passion and longing and even a little bit of sensuality. Barcelona also sounds just as good live as they do in recordings. I actually couldn't tell the difference between the two performances, which is pretty awesome. Barcelona is the kind of band that likes to root itself in a different kind of sound, but add elements of other genres into the mix. I personally think that Barcelona is more piano and synth based. They like to rely on keyboards and programmable sounds into the keyboard to make a majority of their sound. But they also like to use the electric guitar in an unconventional rock way. They use the guitar in a way that R&B uses the guitar. It is more of a picking than a strumming, to create distinct rhythms and notes. The guitar doesn't take the center piece in the song, rather is just a filler. Barcelona has produced such a wonderful song with this one. This song really does take me out of the real world for a while. It is one that makes me want to step outside and take a deep breath. Watch the beauty of the night sky, standing under a blanket of stars. This song is also one that makes me want to be with someone. There is a sensuality and intimacy about the way this song sounds. Like being with your significant other and being fully immersed in their presence. You aren't two separate people, but one couple. This has to be one of my absolute favorite songs by Barcelona. I am just such a huge fan of this band! Their music is so different in comparison to a lot of what I hear today, and they have a great blend of genres and sounds to create something that is spectacular. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Oblivion. The score for this movie was actually composed by M83, a band whose music leaves me speechless and breathless. This song is one of the most moving and inspiring of the entire score, and it fills me with a sense of hope and determination while still being an absolutely beautiful song. This is a score that I can listen to over and over again. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
