Sam Smith and James Bond

Today I have a new song for you, one that is to be featured in one of the few movies this year that I am having trouble waiting for. For those of you who don't know, this year will mark the release of the 24th Bond movie and the fourth installment Daniel Craig does. Now a lot of speculation is being thrown around out there regarding who the next Bond will be. And while yes, that is a very interesting conversation to have, I am definitely more focused on the release of Spectre. This movie will introduce one of the Bond's most notorious villainous agencies, and I personally believe will serve as a movie that answers a lot of questions we Bond fans have. And while I could go on and on about how excited I am for this movie, I am going to turn my attention back to the point of this blog. This round's Bond theme is performed by the one and only Sam Smith. I won't lie, I totally did not see that one coming. What is really cool about the Bond themes is that they have generally been performed by artists who are big at the time. In the past we have seen the likes of Adele, Madonna, and Tina Turner. So I guess it makes sense that the next Bond song is by an artist who has made it really big recently. I won't lie, I would have loved it if Michael Buble got to do a Bond song because, I mean, most of us have heard the man sing.  But this song features the vocals of Sam Smith, a guy who has very soft and higher pitched vocals. And normally, I am a huge fan of his vocals. He is able to create a rich sound because of his higher pitched voice. It is a voice that can easily harmonize and penetrate the soul. Now for a Bond theme, I find it very interesting that they picked Sam Smith. And it is not that I don't enjoy the song. I really do! I just don't know how I feel about it being a Bond theme. I won't lie, the lyrics are pretty spot on for a Bond song. The way it talks about glass shattering and the name of the song, well, it tends to be pretty much like the character. This song does have that older feel to it, the kind of sound that uses big band jazz to its advantage. That is one of the things that I have always loved about Bond themes. He is such a suave and sophisticated character that the theme songs have to have that same level of charisma and charm, while also being a good representation of the movie. I know Spectre is going to be a dark one, hence the darker tone of this song. I think Sam Smith sounds really lovely when he sings this song, but I don't know how I feel about him being the voice for the new Bond movie. Let me know what you guys think! I am really curious to see how you guys feel about the song and whether or not Sam Smith can pull off the Bond charm. And because we have spent all this time talking about James Bond, fondly known as 007, I thought it would be nice to throw in a variation of one of his theme songs. I have posted the original theme on here, a long while ago actually. So this time around, I am going for a newer version of the theme. What is cool is that each actor who plays Bond has their own variation of the theme. And today's instrumental song takes us back to the days when Pierce Brosnan played our hero. Pierce Brosnan's and Daniel Craig's rendition of this classic spy are very different, but each are equally as endearing. And this theme song is a very accurate personification of the Pierce Brosnan seductive Bond. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
