Chet Faker and The Bourne Identity

Today's song is probably the best cover I have heard of this song, and one of the most incredible covers of all time. Chet Faker is honestly one of my all time favorite solo artists. This is a man who has so many musical capabilities, that I can't help but be extremely impressed by his music. Now believe it or not, this is the first single Chet Faker ever put out, and it happens to be a cover of one of the biggest R&B songs of the 90s. I have never heard a hip hop and rap song turned into such a cool, acoustic, and smooth song with such perfection and pristine. Every note is beautifully done and the whole song was arranged in such an incredible manner to where it maintains an R&B beat while still being an indie song. Chet Faker uses the sultry rasp in his voice to add a seductive factor to this rendition. That also makes his voice something that can be mellow and emotive, making us really feel what he feels. What I find really cool about this cover is the weird mix of styles that Chet Faker uses. I mean obviously we have the R&B factor with the original lyrics and stylization of the song. But even Chet Faker's voice takes on that kind of soulful sound. And then we have the multi layered lines of synth or keyboard work, the kind of sounds that five the song the instrumentation that it needs. I think this technique works really well because Chet Faker has the kind of voice that works phenomenally well with electronic sounds, which means the fact that he works with Flume a lot is something normal. And then we get the subtle elements of pure jazz thrown into the mix. Now normally I would say that jazz is not too far off the R&B and soul world of music. But the way Chet Faker employs the jazz parts is simply phenomenal. And the reason why is because very few people would be able to pinpoint exactly where the jazz is. I mean I know for sure that I can't, but I can also hear those stylistic elements that accompany jazz music. And this song in particular is a bedroom song, but also has this tantalizing addition of subtle jazz music. This song has this sublime piano opening, which dives into pounding drums and rhythmic beats, and then add on the vocals to get the full project. Words cannot describe how sick and phenomenal this song is! Today's instrumental song is from the movie The Bourne Identity. It kind of has the same low key tempo and feel to it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
