OneRepublic and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Today I have some great music for you by OneRepublic. Now this song is actually one that has gotten really popular and hit the charts pretty well. But the reason I am blogging about this song is so different from the reason it made it on the charts. For them, the song is one that is just catchy and fun and free. But there is a special reason as to why I am blogging about this song. This past year, I have seen a lot and done a lot. And recently I came to this mental clearing about life. And the message of this song, the lyrics, describe that perfectly. You see, I finally got out into the world and feel like I am seeing it for the fist time. I hunger to travel and to see everything that I can. I ache to go from places like Paris and Rio di Janiero to the Asian Steppes and the African savanna. There is so much wonder and beauty and majesty that this world has to offer. And I want to experience every single one of them. For everyone, "living life" has different meanings. For some it means settling down and having a family. Being surrounded by loved ones and friends and the people who make life worthwhile. And for others, it means connecting the entirety of the world. From the people to the plants and animals that we have. Truly immersing ourselves in the wonders and magnificence of the world and being able to see it as a place to be discovered. This kind of adventure is one that I know I will always have in my heart. Which is why this song is one that actually means so much to me. You see, the lyrics describe my sentiments about life perfectly. It captures the ideal of "living life to the fullest." Instead of running ourselves into the ground on the quest for money and power, this song points out the things in life that actually matter. And I could not be more in love with the song for that. I mean it does have that charismatic attraction of pop sounds. That wonderful guitar strum that makes up the entirety of the beginning, to the dynamic chorus and the pounding drums. It has the best aspects of alternative rock and modern pop all melted into one euphonious piece of work. But at the end of it all, the thing that sticks with me is no the melody of the song, but the words it leaves with us. The words that linger in our heads and hearts. The words that stir that restlessness in our hearts, showing us that we truly are alive. Today's instrumental song comes from a movie that is not very well known. Now I know I blog about this movie a lot, but for good reason. This movie is a wonderful visual accompaniment to the first song. This is a movie that captures that change of mindset, from the limited and constricting work mindset, to the infinite wonders that the world provides. I love this movie so much for that reason, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is one that I could watch a thousand times over in my life. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
