Zedd & Troye Sivan and Major Lazer

Today I have new music off the sophomore album released by Zedd. I have to be completely honest, while this album has quite a bit of EDM to it, there are a lot of other influences reflected in this album. And I absolutely love that! With this album, Zedd has defined himself as something other than Zedd, the EDM DJ. He has been able to define himself as Zedd, the musician and artist. In these songs, Zedd takes part in playing the piano and drums, while also serving as the producer. This album is a testament to Zedd's skill in the music world and I think it is something that should be acknowledged. It isn't easy to have to take on all of the roles, and to do them well. But Zedd makes it look and sound so easy, so smooth, and addicting. This song opens up with a beautiful piano verse, played by Zedd himself. That is one of things that makes him such a relatable artist. HE involves himself in the song beyond just the electronic work. He plays the instruments used in the song and that makes him more of someone we can relate to, someone whom we can emulate. If he can play that on the piano, so can I! That is the kind of humanizing feeling we get from Zedd and his music. But to continue, the piano melodies give way to the more EDM sounding music with the beautiful voice of Troye Sivan providing a wonderful wave of dynamism. Troye Sivan is a phenomenal singer, and one who is very under the radar. Most people I speak to have never even heard of him, at least in America. He is much bigger across the pond, but still not as big as he could be. Troye Sivan lends his voice to this song, a perfect match for the more lighthearted tone of the song. The thing about Troye Sivan is that he has a voice that is gentle and soft, but sings lyrics that pack a punch and are incredibly deep. That is the idiosyncrasy of this all, the beautiful juxtaposition between the way a song sounds and what the song means. Troye Sivan gives this song more body and form so that it is something that can support a nice EDM solo type thing. In the middle of the song, we get a drop from the singing and are left with the electronic melody. While this has the capability to get a little boring or off putting, Troye Sivan balances the electronic work with his beautiful and humanizing voice. In this song, Troye Sivan's vocals are put on this echo. It makes his voice stretch longer and further but it really works. I absolutely love the way this song is done! Troye Sivan's voice combined with the mixing done by Zedd is simply mesmerizing. Today's instrumental song is by Major Lazer. This is a song that has gotten so huge recently and it makes me so happy to see that music like this is finally making it to the forefront. This is possibly my favorite song from Major Lazer's new album, which has been released! This song has a nice chill and smooth kind of vibe that calms you down a bit. This is not like the energy highs we have gotten from Major Lazer in the past. Rather, this is something that falls closer to the chillstep side of things. This is a song that has some great beats to it, but it isn't a song that makes you want to go crazy. This is the kind of song that you may catch yourself dancing to, singing out loud, getting stuck in your head. This is a song that in so infectiously fun and entertaining and downright sick! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
