Rixton and Miguel

Today I have some music for you by a band that did experience some fame within the past couple of years with one of their singles. Rixton is a very underrated band in my opinion. They had one single out that got big, I agree. And it was a generally pop-y tune. I have to say I think that was a song that was geared towards the pop culture sound that people craved on the Top 40 list. But, Rixton is a band that is a lot deeper than that and way more talented than what we heard about a guy and his broken heart. This song by Rixton is simply incredible. This is a real showcase of how talented this band is, and especially the vocalist. The thing about Rixton is that a lot of times they create this opposing sound in comparison to the lyrics. If a song has sadder lyrics, they tend to compose music that is more upbeat to offset the bleak lyrics. I am honestly a huge fan of their more "underground" or lesser known songs. I really like the melody that bridges the verses to the chorus. There is something about the simplicity of the musical backing and the variability in the vocal sound that is magical. Rixton's lead singer has such an incredibly soulful voice that touches your heart. It is so great to hear a voice like this because it has been a long time since hearing a voice like this that doesn't belong to the R&B genre. But lead singer Jake Roche has this beautifully rich and wonderful and warm voice that makes you feel good. His voice is enough to sweep a girl of her feet. While this song is in regard to losing a partner, it is still a song that has this hopefulness to it. It is really nice to hear how that contrast between lyrics and music show the contrast between the sadness of losing a companion, but the hope and inspiration for what it to come. Today's instrumental song is by Miguel. Another man with a lovely and sexy and soulful voice unlike a lot of other singers. This is one of my favorite songs by Miguel for reasons that you will hear. This song just has this coziness to it, the same kind of feeling you get when cuddling or being with someone you care about. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
