Saint Motel and The Heavy

Today I have some more new music for you by a band out of Los Angeles by the name Saint Motel. This is a band that really likes to play with different sounds and has produced music across the entire rock spectrum. While these guys do tend to focus more on indie music, they have been known to throw down some wicked awesome alternative music. This song is one of those sick mixes of indie pop and alternative rock and a beautiful dash of old timey music. This song is one of the greatest sounds I have heard in a while. There is so much energy in this song, from the first note we hear to the last. This sound and style of music is so unique to what we hear a lot nowadays. This is the kind of music that splurges in old timey influences and loves to dive into mixing the older and more retro sounds with the newer and bolder kind of sounds. This song has such a nice and refreshing alternative sound which is only highlighted by the bright and powerful sound we get from the horn section. What is really cool about this song is that there is such a wide variety of instruments used to give us that lively and fresh sound that makes you want to get up and move. There is a somewhat strange assortment of guitars, piano, different horns, clapping, and even a slide whistle. Now some of these instruments pop in briefly and leave as quickly as they came. But that gives this song even more dynamism and excitement! What I think is extremely impressive is that despite all these different instruments, the song never seems too busy. It doesn't feel like there is too much crammed into a small space, rather, something that fits together like clockwork. This is a song that isn't locked into the strict lines that a bass or percussion line may have. There is a definite percussion line, though a little bit one the lighter side. But the bass is off doing its own thing! What is great though is that the song still sounds like it is being kept on track. Organized chaos! And a very nicely done version of organized chaos. This is a song that I find extremely catchy, a true earworm. The melody is so contagious and the horn lines just won't get out of your head. But it kind of gives that feeling of walking into a place like a boss. You just feel so damn awesome when you hear it! I hope you guys go check out the rest of Saint Motel's music because it is pretty darn amazing. Today's instrumental song is by a band known as The Heavy. I have posted quite a bit of music by these guys because I am in love with this band. This is their most well known song and has been featured in movies and commercials. And I can hear why! This is another song that uses the horns to their advantage and displays great knowledge about how to incorporate those orchestral band instruments with the rock band instruments. We get that weird assortment of piano work, guitars, horns, bass guitar, percusison, etc. But everything flows together perfectly and the song doesn't feel like there is too much going on for us to follow. This is another song that makes you feel pretty freaking awesome. This a song that has great energy and the kind of sound that is totally contagious. I am sure a lot of you will recognize this song in a heartbeat! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
