Unbroken and 30 Seconds To Mars
Today I have music for you by an incredible artist. Coldplay is one of the most accomplished and talented artists I have ever heard. And it takes an artist like Coldplay to be able to compose a song for one of the most emotional, moving, and inspiring movies the world has ever seen. Unbroken is the story of an Olympic athlete turned soldier during World War II, the story of how one man was able to overcome the hardest, harshest, and cruelest time of his life. This is a movie that can be really hard to watch because of the sheer reality of the movie itself. Unbroken is not based on a true story, it IS the true story. This book-turned-movie hits so close to home because of the reality of the events that happened. From one fatal situation to another, Louis Zamperini overcame it all. He defied death. And there are no words that can express how amazing and inspiring his story is because I know for a fact that I would not have been able to survive everything he endured. The sheer will to live despite being beat to the ground time and time again, the will to live after being lost adrift for over 45 days, the will to live after being the object of abuse by his captors is both inspiring and completely heartbreaking. When I watched this movie, I couldn't tear my eyes from the screen but I also felt the need to look away because it is just so....well, words cannot really explain it. For those of you who have not seen Unbroken, I ask you and plead with you to please watch it. Everything about this movie is stellar, and the story itself is one for the ages. This is a story that you will never forget, a story that you will keep and hold close to your heart. It just strikes me with awe to look at what Louis Zamperini was able to do and it is something that I want to be able to emulate. The determination, perseverance, will power, and ability to forgive is something I want to become part of my own life. The fact that after everything, Zamperini was able to forgive his captors is what hits me the hardest. The level of goodness that he had to be able to do that. From this movie, seeing the resilience and the strength of the human spirit is an extraordinary thing. Simply incredible. And a movie and man like this deserve a band like Coldplay to be the ones that write and perform the song used in the movie. It is a song that is very well titled considering the subject of the film. This is a song that is full of so much power because of how incredibly poignant it is while also being a song that is here to inspire. This is a piano driven song, a sound that is more gentle and allows for a spectacular cathartic moment. This is a more rhythmic song than a lot of other Coldplay songs, but I still love that. This is actually one of my favorite Coldplay songs it think. There is a sweet strumming of the guitar accompanying the piano, along with snapping to create a song that shines and sounds like the triumph that can only describe the heroism of this movie. This is the kind of song that makes you feel everything in life. This is the kind of song that makes you feel that sadness, the anthemic triumph, the pain and feeling of being lost, and the beautiful surge of love when you finally make it to where you belong. Songs like this are so hard to put into words because of how vast and deep their meaning is. But I do hope you go watch the movie so you can feel the strength of this song even more. Today's instrumental song is by the band 30 Seconds to Mars. This again is one of their greatest songs, an anthemic and uplifting song that tells a similar story. This is a song that starts out with the slower melodies of feeling pain and loss and sadness and despair. But it gives way to being found, realization. It gives way to the rising sun, the beginning of a new day. And it is simply beautiful. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
