Oliver Nelson and Mark Ronson

Today I have yet another remix for you! I guess this is just going to be remix week. Which honestly is not such a bad thing because I love it when artists get really creative and put their own twist on songs that we already love. This remix has been done by Oliver Nelson and is an improved version of one of Justin Timberlake's singles. This was the first single dropped from the 20/20 Experience album, which means of course we fell in love with it. But the thing is, I never realized how much I wish there was more of an energetic groove to the song until I heard this remix by Oliver Nelson. He really brings us that suave groove that Justin Timberlake easily exudes. This remix is the only one I have heard that actually suits what the song is supposed to really make you feel. Justin Timberlake is the kind of guy who has charisma and class, someone who is effortlessly smooth. This remix captures that class and groove that we all think about when it comes to Justin Timberlake. It has that jazzy kind of spin to the electronic work in the remix. Oliver Nelson brings out this jazzy funk which perfectly describes Justin Timberlake. This is the best part of this remix. The way the song sounds is a perfect representation of both the original artist and the remixer. This song should be in an audio dictionary next to a picture of Justin Timberlake. But this song is also a really good example of how well Oliver Nelson works. He is the kind of artist who does dabble in different styles of house, but mainly in these more tropical kind of sounds. This song is a great showcase of how he can take and R&B and jazz song and turn it into something that has that more modern EDM twist. This is the kind of remix I can imagine being played at a club because the energy is that infectious. This is one of my all time favorite remixes and I seriously hope this song starts to get a little bit more hype because it is quite amazing! Today's instrumental song is a version of one of the biggest songs of the year. This song has been used everywhere, has been heard everywhere, and remains ever popular. This song is by Mark Ronson and features Bruno Mars, making it doubly as amazing. Everything about this song works. There is just the right amount of modern electronic mixed with the old school jazz band and funk style. This song works like clockwork, every piece being a beautifully fun addition to the song. Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
